Mata and Young are good shouts, Cavani is a striker just like Dzeko so he would help us very little with the AJ situation. N'Zogbia is a good shout, there's no way Twitchy will let us have Kranjcar so we better be looking elsewhere. Elia anyone? A cheeky bid for Ribery or Robben, maybe? ;)

if we had any hope of winning the league (which are slim) we have just seen them washed away with johnson being out!! he is the only out and out winger we have, swp has lost his speed and trickery so were struggling out wide. milner not a winger!!

I tore many of my lateral and anterior ankle ligaments 18 months back (as well as fracturing some of the bones in my feet) in a really bad tackle. Can definitely empathize - hurts every day, clicks endlessly and feels very...out of place.
AJ will have world class physios swanning around him but it's still a serious injury. Doubt we'll see him til the start of next season now.

I would be perfectly happy with Matt Jarvis if we could get him. Not as much goal threat but much more end product than AJ whenever I've seen him.

It's not just my shout Doug, we're being linked with him by some media outlets.

Apparently he doesn't need to have an operation.
Not sure if that means he will be back a bit earlier now?

Yes he says it on his twitter. Maybe a glimmer of light that he might play some part this season.

Maybe that's why we didn't sign a replacement?

Sorry to throw a dampener on things but I looked up a medical site which said surgery was rarely needed even for grade 3 sprains ( which I presume is the situation with AJ). Sometimes its done after a period of months if more conservative therapy doesn't work. Also the last thing the club will do is rush him back. I think we'll be lucky to see him back this season to be honest.

Totally speculative without knowing the extent of AJ's injury although it can't be a worst case scanario if an op is not required

I'm sure we'll be fine if Tevez gets injured too. It's not as if Balotelli is likely to suffer any further injuries or complications once he recovers from the latest one that's on the same knee he's had problems with since we signed him.
If the worst comes to the worst, I'm sure we can compete in 3 competitions with Jo & SWP. They'll never let us down.
as funny as that is ted,its beyond stupid how everyone on this board could see we needed back up to our creative players and the people that are paid thousands each week didnt address it...... maybe we're just all geniuses!.....or maybe a marquee is signing right as we speak!
I'd settle for a 32 year old loan signing with a decent cross on him now tbh.
I thought Jesus was actually 33 when he was alo(a)ne with that cross on him...... Uuuuggghhhh; can't believe I just typed that. I'd better exit stage left immediately.

It's not that speculative. The club have said post a scan that he'll be out for 3 months.

Read via twitter than he doesn't need surgery, just probably a load of rehab though.
Wonder if Assulin is ready to step up. He could be the unknown quantity??

I thought that was a good effort. Deserved round of applause.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?
