i would hope we'd buy three or four players total between january and summer 2011 - nine players is way too much turnover for a team as good as we are

Edin Dzeko begs Manchester City to sign him
today at 11:21 am

The likelihood of much desired Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko signing for Manchester City has vastly increased after it was revealed that he wrote to the club asking them to sign him.

Come and get me pleas are ten a penny in the world of tabloid transfer speculation, when even the slightest reference from a player to a particular club will result in a frenzy of headlines suggesting that said player is desperate to join.

This particular story seems to have some merit, however, as it has been revealed that Dzeko, who plays for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga, sent a letter to a senior executive at Eastlands earlier in the season, expressing his admiration for the club and his gratitude for their efforts to buy him in the August window.

City’s initial efforts to sign Dzeko were thwarted by Wolfsburg’s asking price, thought to be in the region of £45 million (€53 million), but City have continued to monitor the 24-year old’s progress and their desire for a top class striker will have increased in the wake of Carlos Tevez’s public expression of his desire to leave the club.

City invited Dzeko’s representatives to watch the recent Manchester derby and gave them a tour of their training facilities, with the club eager to make an impression on a player who is coveted by some of the top clubs in Europe.

Dzeko has continued his fine form from recent seasons in this campaign with eight goals in 15 games for Steve McLaren’s Wolfsburg. At 6’3”, he is a significant aerial threat and his arrival would pave the way for the departure of Emmanuel Adebayor, who has sulked his way through this season, the vast majority of which he has spent on the bench.

Dzeko has appeared 31 times for the Bosnian national side, scoring 17 goals.
In the words of my Old Man, "Life will never be the same without Man City, so get it in while you can".

The Bosnians call him "Machinegun" or kalashnikov, because of his scoring appetite :))

I think the last person who begged us to sign him was Big Fat Bob from Gillingham.

I think the Carroll rumour started on here tbh. Just like the 'Doug Spy' stories.

RSC touting for a move to Germany it seems. Wolfburg. Straight swap for Dzeko? :-)

http://www.goal.com/en/news/12/spain/20 ... 00-million?

According to reports, Manchester City are lining up a €100 million bid to bring Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta to Eastlands.

Iniesta finished an almost perfect season last time around by scoring the winning goal for Spain in the World Cup in South Africa and he is now in contention for winning the FIFA Ballon d'Or.

"Iniesta has had a great year and has come through the Barcelona youth system, but this does not mean that the Catalan club do not consider a good offer," a representative of Manchester City was quoted as saying by Marca.

Barcelona's financial situation is no secret and such large offers for any player may be considered by Blaugrana officials.

Bollcks or... ? Beside de Barcelona problem, Silva can be an important factor for Iniesta to come here (they were team mates at all Spain low teams. U21,U19, etc)

I think the player isn`t interested, but what about the club? I read that Barcelona have some financial problems and maybe by selling him they will restore the balance. But i don`t think the owner will go that far and force him out, than again ? They selled Figo to their alltime rivals.

Iniesta sale story denied

Tuesday night, Yahoo! Sports came out with a story talking about the probable sale of Barcelona star midfielder Andrés Iniesta either this coming winter market or during the summer. This was supposedly a move in which current president Sandro Rosell would be forced into due to the heavy amount of debt that is burdening the club according to ¨a club source ¨.

There was speculation that based on the €100 million price tag, the only team able to buy him would be Manchester City. This final tidbit was the only thing that was true about the article. Even the figures of the controversial jersey deal with The Qatar Foundation were incorrect.

Well, I can confirm that this is not true.

What seemed weird was that the Madrid press never got ahold of this news and splattered it on the front page of their dailies. The news came from an American outlet.

Although Sandro Rosell’s top priority is to bring down that debt, he is also interested in maintaining a team that is highly competitive especially with Real Madrid breathing down their necks. By selling the potential Ballon D’Or winner and the hero in Spain’s World Cup title, that would completely defeat the purpose of what Rosell is trying to do. Who knows, that would be the last straw for Barca fans with the new president.

In the event that were to happen, the first thing that would be done would be to censure Rosell. That would definitely not be the the former marketing guru would like to spend te remaining five-and-a-half plus years in charge of a club that he grew up supporting.

In addition to political suicide, it could also have terrible consequences on the football side. Pep Guardiola has said time and time again that Iniesta is one of his most important players. Pep has a great influence in which players have to stay and which players go. I don’t Tampering with this midstream could spell disaster for any team, especially a team that has the chemistry that Barca have.

Would the team afford to have Iniesta leave and have place Seydou Keita or even Sergio Busquets from a tactical perspective?

According to Catalan daily Sport writer, Xavier Ortuño, this article has no foundation. “News about possible transfers and their potential interests are published on a daily basis and come from the most unexpected places,”said Ortuño.”You can figure out where they originate from rather quickly. When the time a player has to renew his contract nears, the agent always wants others to talk about his client in order to have leverage with numbers.”

This all arises from the current economic situation of the club. “A club comes out and says that their economic situation is not the best and in a matter of hours news of offers for one of their star players begin to surface,” said Ortuño. “Sound familiar?”

More importantly, for the sake of refuting this article, I contacted FC Barcelona and spoke to to International Press Secretary, José Miguel Terés and there was absolutely no base to this story. They should be coming shortly with a statement refuting this speculated transaction.

So Barca fans, breathe easy as Spain’s favorite son will remain at the club that has seen him grow for quite a few years.
