Real Madrid have quashed Manchester City's hopes of signing Gonzalo Higuain this summer by confirming he is not for sale.
The Argentina international had been linked with a big-money move to Eastlands as Roberto Mancini looks to refine his star-studded squad.
There were even reports on Thursday evening that City were in talks with Real over Higuain's signing along with Fernando Gago.
However, Real's sporting director Jorge Valdano has poured cold water on the speculation, stating Higuain is not leaving Santiago Bernabeu.
Contracted
"He is under contract for three more years and has been a key man this season, he is not transferable," Valdano told Marca.
With the arrival of Jose Mourinho apparently imminent following the sacking of Manuel Pellegrini, attention is already turning to who the 'Special One' might want to bring in this summer.
Valdano admits it is unlikely to be a striker, adding: "We do not need more forwards, we scored 102 goals this season and Benzema didn't play much.
"Next season Karim is like a new signing."

But he will definately be under 30 ... probably.
A clue is Oasis first album - "Definately Maybe" - but I cant say anymore as I've said too much already and dont want to get the club, an agent, my mate, the press hack etc etc into trouble for revealing a trade secret and top itk information.

Told you all this transfer activity was coming. You can clearly deduce from my "top itk bollocks" above that I was referring to Dezeco, Gago etc etc. This itk stuff is easy.

Emmanuel Adebayor is unlikely to leave Manchester City for Milan as his agent Stephane Courbis casts doubts over a move.
Il Corriere dello Sport reported a strong interest from Milan in the former Arsenal man.
They claimed Adebayor is not guaranteed regular football under Roberto Mancini, and that Silvio Berlusconi, the Rossoneri president, has long been an admirer of the hitman.
But his agent appears to have killed off all possibilities of a summer exit, claiming he is unaware of any Milan interest.
"I don't know anything about this. Milan have not contacted me, neither have Manchester City," the agent told Calciomercato.it.
"Is he unhappy at City? I don't have anything to say about this."
Zigic's agent Milan Calasan now claims that both City and Villa were interested in pipping Blues to the 29-year-old hit-man.
However, City's plans were too long-term for Zigic's needs while Villa were unable to progress fully with manager Martin O'Neill away on holiday.
"In Switzerland we met with a representative of Manchester City. We wanted to hear his plans before we met with Birmingham," he told the Birmingham Mail.
"They introduced into the game the eventual sale of (Emmanuel) Adebayor so it was immediately clear that everything was long term, so it was no surprise we automatically withdrew from everything.
"Then we were contacted by Aston Villa on the day Nikola had already arrived in Birmingham.
"They begged us to wait a while. Without Martin O'Neill, no decision can be taken and he is on holiday.
"In that case, there was nothing more logical than to finish a job with the club where all the doors were open (Birmingham).
"We had a great welcome from Birmingham. Alex McLeish (Birmingham) spent an hour chatting in the hotel to Nikola."

Barcelona and Manchester City have met this morning to negotiate the transfer of Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure, who wishes to leave the set that directs Guardiola to anchor in another where she's not so difficult to achieve ownership.
The president of Barcelona, Joan Laporta, explained today that Yaya Toure's agent Dimitri Selçuk, announced the club will or possibility "of a change of scenery this summer. And, faced with this dilemma, the club is willing to "listen out of courtesy", offers arrive by him.
The technical secretary of the set Barca Txiki Begiristain and football director of the entity, Raul Sanllehí, today met with envoys of the City. The English club, which plays the brother Yaya, Kolo Toure, is also interested in Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but Laporta has assured that the Swedish striker is "not for sale".
Laporta has insisted that, if for him to be, Touré Yaya "continue at the club many years, because there are few players in the world like him," but have left a door open to the transfer, "for the appreciation we have for him" .
The president would not go into the details of the negotiations for a way out of these players but said that if a player wanted to leave, the club would consider his case. "Our intention is to keep the staff we already have and reinforce it with Villa, who is here, and also with another player. If there are players who are asking us to leave we will have to explore that possibility, but in principle we have all the players," said .
Cesc y el precio de mercado Cesc and the market price
On the possible signing of Cesc, the leader made clear that the club will not pay any amount that is not within the market. "We have never paid off market prices. The price has to be logical. If Arsenal required an exorbitant amount, will that wants to prevent the transfer."
Regarding the World declined to say that his heart is with Spain: "I want to be champion any selection in the Barca players to play."
Más ataques a Rosell More attacks Rosell
Joan Laporta also missed the opportunity today to attack with extreme hardness candidate and former collaborator Sandro Rosell: "He told me that Victor Valdés, Puyol and Xavi were no winners and we had to transfer them. They also wanted to take the first year and Rijkaard Txiki Begiristain. "
No me inspiraba confianza. I had a good relationship with Sandro Rosell, but ended up disappointing me. I do not inspire confidence. His attitude was immature. He showed a lot of jealousy. When he left with a handful of executives who are now with him said it was the apocalypse, the desert, but we've come to live the best moments in the history of Barça. We were happy to abandon the project, but since they left only have wanted to put a spoke in the wheel, "the president said culé
"What I'm waiting, and not just a partner but also as Barca president, are some explanations of what Brazil because they are linking the name of the club in an alleged case of corruption and that is not good. Do not try to divert attention, "he added
