Glad we are waiting. Ive seen him play a couple of times and even with 20% on top cause its City, he's not worth £34 million.

Reminds me of Miroslav Klose but with a smoother touch and ground skills. Very strong aerielly, but doesnt have much pace. Slow on the turn.

Would link well with Tevez. He fills the gaps of what Tevez cannot do. Plus, the guy can score goals. Like Michael Owen at his best, he plays the first 5 yards in his head.

Underwhelmed by Gago. He's not a massive improvement on anything we have in midfield.

Higuain though, excellent. Would much rather see him here than Dzeko. He would fit in here perfect. He is the true definition of a striker.

Madrid would, oh yes they would.

These South Americans are very gregarious and he wants to join his pals Tevez and Zaba. Plus Madrid pay him fuck all and are showing no signs of improving that.

In effect it's all down to the special one. Whoever he doesn't want next week we can have our pick. (Except Guti hopefully!)

I agree, would rather take Yaya Toure, especially as Arse and Rags seem keen.

I'm not an expert on where these guys in Spain play, but isn't Yaya a defensive type a la DeJong and Barry, whereas Gago is the 'box to box' variety of which we need at least 2 (our only one is Ireland who has been piss poor)? Different animal (I think).

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Ma ... 40721.html

Manchester City have launched a daring swoop for David Silva and three other La Liga stars.

City chief executive Garry Cook met Valencia president Manuel Llorente in Spain last night to discuss Silva after earlier holding talks with Real Madrid about Gonzalo Higuain, Rafael van der Vaart and Fernando Gago.

Cook told Llorente that City were determined to sign the £25million-rated Silva, who has also been a target for Manchester United and Liverpool.

In a sign of City's vast spending power, he also met Real's director general Jorge Valdano and sporting director Miguel Pardeza to discuss Higuain, Van der Vaart and Gago.

Real are open to offers for the trio to help fund Jose Mourinho's raid on the Premier League for Ashley Cole and Steven Gerrard.

City nearly signed midfield hardman Gago in January and have also been monitoring striker Higuain, who was Real's top scorer in La Liga last season and who is in a contract dispute with the Spanish giants.

They have now added Van der Vaart to their shopping list, who is also on Sir Alex Ferguson's radar, and the Dutch playmaker is not see as part of Real's future.

10 things you need to know about David Silva

1) David Josua Jimanez Silva was born on 8 January 1986 in Arguineguin, Gran Canaria, to a Spanish father and an Asian mother.

2) He came up through the Valencia youth team, but made his first team debut on loan to second division side SD Eibar in 2005, for whom he made 35 appearances and scored five goals.

3) He was loaned to top-flight side Celta Vigo for the 2005-06 season, where he again impressed, notching four goals in 31 games and helping the team secure qualification for the UEFA Cup.

4) Those exploits at Celta Vigo attracted a great deal of attention, and led to Valencia tying him down to a seven-year contract in 2007.

5) He's made more than 140 appearances for Valencia and scored 20 goals. Chelsea fans might remember the corker below from the Champions League in 2007.

6) He was joint top scorer with four goals in the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championships, helping Spain to the quarter-finals.

7) He made his senior Spanish debut in a 1-0 defeat against Romania on November 15th, 2006, and scored his first goals in a 3-2 win over Greece on August 22nd, 2007.

8) He played a key role in Spain's Euro 2008-winning side and got on the scoresheet in the semi-final victory over Russia. He was substituted in the final, however, after becoming embroiled in a violent feud with German striker Lukas Podolski which saw the pair going head to head... You can see the butt below

9) He was the subject of an internet prank when a rumour was circulated that, because of his Asian roots, he was a skilled machete fighter. Unfortunately it's not true - which is probably just as well, given the state of knife crime in Britain right now…

10) He's primarily an attacking midfielder, but can play anywhere across the middle and also as a second striker in the hole. David spent most of the last two seasons playing on the right wing for Valencia and is regarded as one of the brightest talents in Spanish football - as the dazzling compilation below demonstrates...

Not according to this, if we are the only bidders:

With AC Milan priced out of the running for the 24-year-old and Chelsea’s interest in the player also on the wane, City manager Roberto Mancini appears to have a clear field in his attempt to make the prolific striker his first signing of the summer at Eastlands.

Despite reports in Germany on Thursday night that City had begun talks with the player and his advisors, senior City officials are understood to be waiting for Dzeko’s buy-out clause to expire at midnight on Monday before making a formal move.

Vieira's extended City break Mancini’s interest in Dzeko, who has scored 56 goals in 94 appearances for Wolfsburg since arriving from the Czech club Teplice in 2007, has been confirmed, but City are confident that they can secure the player for less than his current price-tag once his escape clause runs out.

Mark Hughes, Mancini’s predecessor identified Dzeko as a target last summer before ultimately moving for the injury-ravaged Blackburn forward Roque Santa Cruz.

Dzeko was also monitored by Manchester U***d 12 months ago before the Old Trafford club completed the free transfer signing of Michael Owen.

Dzeko impressed in his two Champions League appearances against U***d, however, with goals in both encounters.

Yeah, looks like I got it back to front with my assumption - the buyout value must have been a 'hands off' kind of thing

The first rumour I've actually been excited about all summer.

It's easy to catch quite a lot of the Bundesliga in Australia and Dzeko's been the standout whenever I've seen him. Crouch/Viduka is the perfect summary, really.

Babelfish' translation of a report on City conversation with Milan from Tuttomercato today, starting about Robinho, great comedy:

The Brazilian after the loan to the Santos is ready to re-enter to Manchester but he does not re-enter in the plans of Mancini: some days before some emissaries of City have introduced themselves in the center of the Milan, have received a dry one not for Pato, but nell' encounter would have been spoken also about the compatriot, now in withdrawal with the Selecao: it could be the blow of Berlusconi

It seems we 'got a dry one not for Pato' then?
