Agreed.

Fingers crossed. Every indication i'm getting is O'neill needs the dosh to fund his own plans, this deal has a way to go, but its more likely to happen than not atm.

It'll be done one way or another before the team heads out to the world cup that's for sure.

No one likes these dragged out transfer sagas after all. Not good for the heart and all that.. :D

I think this could be good business for both clubs. Villa need a cash injection to help MO, and we have the funds at our disposal for a player we apparently like. Double Bubble to a certain extent. I'm sure Villa won't want to lose a talisman.

If he's coming it's definitely plan B for a long season inc. the Europa league rather than plan A for a long season with Champions League. But they're still either a 2008-9 Stevie Ireland or a new Ali Benarbia away. Miss you, Ali (even miss you, Elano, come to that.)

David Luiz in talks with City

Buy, buy Manchester City: Money men swoop for David Luiz as Villa fight to keep Milner

By Simon Jones, Neil Moxley and Ian Ladyman
Last updated at 11:44 PM on 17th May 2010

Manchester City flexed their muscles again on Monday when they opened negotiations to take brilliant Brazilian David Luiz from under the noses of Real Madrid in a £25million swoop.

The left-sided Benfica defender - who can also play as a defensive midfielder - had been expected to move to Spain until City moved swiftly with an ambush bid to beat Real to his signature.

It comes 24 hours after they began their £24m raid for James Milner - although Aston Villa's American owner Randy Lerner is determined to resist any attempts by City to lure his highly rated player.

The billionaire said: 'I'm not worried about losing James Milner. I think James will play for Aston Villa and should play for Aston Villa.

'I'm not dismissive of the realities that a player that has received the attention and acclaim of James is going to spark discussion and debate about a move and so on. The answer is "No", I don't worry about him leaving because he is wanted at this club.'

It could be that Manchester City include England Under 21 defender Nedum Onuoha in their proposed offer for Milner.

As they look to wheel and deal in the market this summer, Luiz is among their top targets.

Manager Roberto Mancini has watched him several times this season - notably when he impressed at left back for Benfica against Liverpool in the Europa League quarter-finals - and believes the all-action player is worth the investment.

Luiz, 23, has also been watched by Chelsea and Manchester United, but City are the first to come close to Benfica's valuation and the player is keen on the move.

The 6ft 2in defender was a pivotal figure in his side's resurgence last season and helped them to the Portuguese title.

Benfica still hope to drive the figure close to his buy-out clause of £43m but the player and his representatives are confident a reasonable compromise can be reached and City's £25m will be sufficient.

Only in a fake Dutch accent, like his TV interviews (though now he's going to Wolfsburg it will migrate into a fake German accent by next summer)

He's played his best football of this season (and possibly of his career) in central midfield - he is still a good winger though.

What springs to my mind is, I don't think this is Mancini's signing....

Nah. Given Bobby's love of versatility and work ethic, Milner is just the sort of player I'd expect him to be after.

Goal scorer who an play anywhere across the midfield, who is young and will only improve. Great signing if we get him.

Just need De Rossi's engine and Arteta's craft and we can move on to other areas of the pitch.

Couple of questions. In what way have they been "pissed on" and how do you define talent?

I'm not saying this lad is the player for us, I've never seen him play but these two certainly haven't been pissed on and neither has done enough over the last 2/3 seasons to prove that they hae what it takes to regularly turn out for a team competing at the top end of the Premiership. Ned's fitness issues and Micah's concentration issues are valid enough reasons for us to be looking to replace them.

first of all, Ned already played himself out of the club with his performance on soccer AM. Second, Luiz plays on the left side of central defence or as leftback, so this has no affect on either of them. Third, he is not unproven nor does he look like Elano. Fourth, we are aiming for the top not the fucking seventh spot, that's why we need improvement. Fifth, just because we haven't had much luck with Brazilians, it doesn't mean all brazilians are cunts, they aren't. Sixth, you've never even seen him play have you?
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Mind you, you can bet your life Gerrard isn't coming so I suppose Milner was top of the "B" list. Can't say the thought of Milner arriving floats my boat so to speak, nor can I see why Villa would sell him unless they are totally skint and as far as Im aware they are not, or he kicks up a stink like Lescott.

Marwood needs to be sacked if we are already on b list of our transfers.

Anyway Lerner said he is not looking to sell and while maybe not rich beyond wildest dreams like Sheik, he is no peasant and can say no and sit on it if he wants to. Personally, if I were them and someone offered me that for Milner, I'd snap their hands of. Good player but certainly not irreplaceable.

What if Gerrard was the only player above Milner on the list? Bit OTT that mate. The only player signing we know for sure that Marwood was behind was AJ and that hasn't worked out too badly.

Really don't think Milner takes us to the next level.
But with City's "interest", anyone else interested will have to pay the inflated expectations Villa now have on the transfer fee.
BTW Doesn't it feel like Milner has been about for a long long time. Must have broke into the Leeds team when he was about 12 :)
Still not good enough for the next stage of The Revolution.
