What he could have done was keep it very simple and very clear:
“This is a press conference about City and the Carabao Cup semi-final. We can discuss world politics and my personal views in a different setting. Today is about City, on City’s time, and on City’s payroll.” That would have ended it immediately.
Instead, he seemed eager to engage and address the issue, which suggests he genuinely enjoys talking about it.
What becomes problematic is the wider context. He missed the previous press conference (against Spurs) because he was reportedly late due to political commitments? I didn't hear any other reason, right? If that’s true, then it crosses a line, because at that point he didn’t perform his duties, and the club felt the consequences when points were dropped.
