I'm struggling to understand the outrage, but then again I'm coming to the conclusion that the human race in general is just fucking stupid.
Regarding the disallowed goal, Webb / PGMOL has subsequently clarifed that VAR correctly could not intervene as the player was stood in an offside position, and the referee made a subjective decision as to whether the player was / was not offside based on the inability to know whether Donarumma's decision was changed by the position of the player. As there was no clear and obvious error, VAR cannot intervene - should be case closed?
I could have lived with it being given offside, just as i could have lived with us not getting the penalty we were awarded. These are fine margins which have always been 50/50 contentious decisions, and will always continue to be, just as was the case with Bernardo being in the offside position. On reflection, the referee will almost certainly respect that his 2 decisions on 2 occasions being different in a very similar situation give rise to allegations of inconsistency, but that's never going to go away in the heat of the moment.
I think the problem we see here is simply the general stupidity of society anddd inability to see any non-partisan perspective, and thus jump to an astonishing range of conspiracy theories - the number of comments I've seen on socials mentioning Saudi is incredible.
