Cut and pastes from an article re the penalty.
IMO the damming evidence is that Taylor's stats in this game have a different pattern to his other games. See the the third snippet below.
'....The laws of the game are extremely vague on the topic. A foul is awarded "if a player commits any of the following offenses against an opponent in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force. In this case, the referee did not show Ederson a yellow card, meaning he categorised this foul to be "careless" by the Man City goalkeeper, as had it been "reckless" he would have needed to show a card. "Careless" is defined as "when a player shows a lack of attention or consideration when making a challenge or acts without precaution.'
'...VAR official at the Emirates, David Coote, will have reviewed this decision from Anthony Taylor, but ultimately decided not to intervene. VAR officials have been directed only to step in when a "clear and obvious" error has been made, and Coote determined that while there may have been some controversy to this goal, there was not enough in this incident to re-referee the match on video review...'
...Taylor has been one of the most lenient officials in Premier League action this season...his mark of 3.67 yellows per match ranks him 11th...The penalty given to Arsenal in this match was the third he has awarded all season in 16 matches, ranking him 15th in per-game penalties...'
So looking at Taylor's stats (one of the most lenient officials):
4 yellows for City yesterday. 3 yellows in the first half alone. He averages 3.67 per match for both teams.
Walker's and Ed's yellows were the opposite of lenient. Ed's for time wasting after 36 mins! Has any other GK got a yellow so early for the same thing?
Taylor almost matched his card average per match for two teams, on City in the first half (zero cards for Arsenal in the1st half).
IMO the penalty award is the one that confirms the agenda.
He was the opposite of lenient. I have not seen a penalty given for that before. He awards on average, 1 penalty every 5.2 games.
That means that the penalty he gave against City would be, on average, the only penalty he would award in 5 games.
The penalty was for the type of GK challenge that is never punished by a penalty in he PL. At least I cannot think of one penalty awarded for that.
Context also needs to be factored in. The yellows were flashed and the penalty were awarded after we scored when Arsenal needed a helping hand.
In summary, last night Taylor broke his normal template of refereeing a match.
He was not lenient, he issued City alone with more yellows than his usual match average and he awarded a 'harsh' penalty when he usually gives 1 in 5 games.
Put it another way, if you tried to guess the referee for last night's match using the ref's stats, they would never match to Taylor.
I think that is a bit strange?

blues2win wrote:Booking Ederson for time wasting midway through the first half was ridiculous. A warning would surely have been enough. As for a supposed second yellow VAR can’t look at that. They look at possible reds. Obviously most fouls don’t result in a yellow card. In my view Ederson didn’t commit a foul and there should have been no penalty but even if you consider it a foul a yellow is not automatic,

Alty doesn't have to rescind the yellow card. If he thought it was a punishable offence he can give it, That there was an offside doesn't negate any offence that occured. Just means the game restarts with a free kick for offside and not a penalty.

The yellow card he gave Gabriel for fouling Haaland was rescinded...

Yes , I know it was , but he doesn't have to.

Rescinding that card cost me £70. I had a bet on for both teams to score, Haaland to score, City to win and Gabriel to be booked. Taylor is an absolute bellend.

Walker smashed the ball away which made it clear he knew exactly what he was doing, was all over the place first half. Could have just let the ball roll out.
As for Eddy, has there ever been a more obvious piece of time wasting ffs. At least try to be a bit clever.

I agree with the Walker one. With Eddy, what fucks me off totally is the inconsistencies with refs. Every keeper we play against does what Eddy was doing, without an early card ever being shown. I once counted 15 occasions from about the 5th minute onwards when a ref signalled to a keeper to get on with it, before finally flashing a card...... in the 86th minute! Eddy got 1 warning, then a booking on 36 mins.
