Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

One of us is obviously drunk...

Its not the end of the world nobody died.... but there were parts of that game where I was thinking of ending it all.

Sweet Jesus, when Pearce took over from Keegan we had 9 games left to try to make something of the season. And do you know what? It was fucking Exhilarating!!! We took the league by the scruff of the neck with a shit squad.

No excuse for not going for it.

I'll say the same as I've said for the last good while.

Hopefully it'll change next game.

Shit, now I'm boring myself...

I actually thought we played well in spells against Stoke, but the tempo of the game was given to them after we scored. I think we will get by them in the replay and I also think we will beat them in the league. I can't say if Bobby is the man but I reckon he will succeed with these tactics, probably more by default than his tactical awareness.

We were assured by Socrates that Mancini played attacking football though!
Fact is, he didn't really know much about him and he formed his opinions after a quick google.
Will be interested to hear his excuses this week
I was another one who said he plays attacking football, because he did at Inter. Not super attacking like Barcelona but still much more than what he has been displaying so far. I don't know if he did there because he knew he had the best squad by a mile and could afford it, or if he is playing this way now because he's under pressure of reaching a target in half a season and has thus reverted to the "let's not lose first" approach. One thing is sure, he used to play much more attacking football at Inter.

If we play 3 holding midfielders, play a right winger on the left wing and and left winger on the right wing and continue to play long balls up to Adebayor in a style of football that is more like Blackburn against Liverpool on Sunday and we lose the game in the most dull and boring manner I will become the first Mancini Out poster :-)

No, never was going to be, never will be, unexperienced, the lower league managers can out wit him, it's a shame, but I don't feel sorry for him, the club I do, crazy descision to appoint a manager with no experience, other than a one sided Italian league.

I always had my doubts based on his credentials at Inter where he basically was handed league wins in the courts but was willing to give him a shot, and still am. It's early days.

However I cannot tolerate boring football, Id much rather finish 6th or 7th playing great to watch stuff than bore our way to 4th. Its just not the city way. I can understand such negative tactics away to Chelsea but to put out such negative against Pompy, Bolton and Stoke at home is going to him no fans.

I wont be signing any Mancini out threads yet. I'm trying to convince myself that he is only trying to drag us over the finishing line then he will start a fresh next season.

I am coming to think that this is not far from the truth.

I doubted the 6 month contract stuff at the time but the more I see, the more I am starting to believe that he is determined to grind out results (and most importantly avoid losing) to make sure we get 4th and ensure he gets the 3 year extension and can start in earnest as of the summer.

If that's the case and he does this and we see a more exciting team next term under Mancini then all well and good I guess, the end will justify the means.

But if this is "The Mancini" way...then fuck me that is a depressing prospect as this dirge we are being served up is horrifying (especially as we have all seen just how exciting this same group of players can be)

That didn't really work for Hughes, though, did it?

No it didn't, that's why...personally....I think it's a bit of a daft strategy to pursue.

Cityitis seems to be alive and well, surviving a change in owner, manager and players. We continue to be capable of shooting ourselves in the foot.

We need to win and win clearly. City do not to 1-0 wins very well...

i'm staying on not sure.

but really, we have had one good team performance (vs Wolves) since he took over. this needs to change very fast, we really do not look like a unit at all.

I think Mancini was told, upon joining us, that the biggest problem we had was in defence, and so he is trying to build his side from the back. We definitely lose our attacking prowess when we do this but it was clear under Hughes that we would never achieve our ambitions by not addressing this issue. However, the problem with taking the defensive approach is that it invites the opposition to attack us even more and considering we do still have defensive frailties, this can expose us, particularly against the better teams.

I did a quick check to see what our average goals scored and goals conceded per game have been under each manager this season:
Hughes: average goals scored - 2.1; average goals conceded - 1.4
Mancini: average goals scored - 1.9; average goals conceded - 1

I know stats aren't the answer to everything and don't show the level of performance in each match, but I think it is fair to say that we are defending better as a team and I don't expect the opposition to score every time they attack us. We have some very good individual defenders in our squad and so we should be able to create a solid defensive unit. Once Mancini has achieved this, then I believe he'll focus on the attacking side. My only concern is that the way defend as a team doesn't stifle our attacking players in the long run.

Whilst I wasn't a fan of Hughes, he did give the attacking players room to flourish. It's up to Mancini to incorporate that attacking style of play with a solid defensive base.

I am still on 'not sure' - one positive I take is his seeming willingness to blood young uns - the bed is now made and we have to lie in it - if he is not here after the summer that means he has failed and we are destined for at least one more season in the also rans - not really challenging - I actually do not want to settle for the Europa League - this is an 'also rans' competition and it would be typical CITY to spend next year getting to the QFs of that comp and finishing 5th - just to be destined for yet another year as an also-ran - and onwards

Problem I see is that if this really is a 'long term' project then we need to be successful in the 1st team - and as important, successful in developing the youth to ensure that we have a steady supply of the worlds best emerging talent. That is the only way to be successful in a sustainable way. Associated to this is the new UeFA regulations that will mean that we can not keep spending £200m etc

It is for these reasons (amongst others) that I am one of the minority that do not want Jose as our manager. Despite the grinding football (could it be any worse than what we currently see?) - I have a clear view that his personality is incompatible with 'managing the project' - I think that it would all be the Jose Circus - loads of media focus (on him not CITY) - buy some big names - maybe win a cup - but 4 years later we have nothing coming through the system and we are not able to just go out and splash the cash again

So I want Mancini to be successful now - for all the obvious reasons - but also to prevent the clamour for the 'special one' - I recognise that mine is a minority view and only based on my perception of Jose - but we need CL football - and we need it next year if this project is to get renewed momentum
