Simple really, La liga will be damaged if/when Messi leaves, they have already lost lady boy and Neymar, why the damage? Because television/image and advertising money will be further lost, so you can see why they would support Barca.

Despite the fact that the rest of La Liga get to share 20-30% of the revenue, 20-30% of nothing is nothing so last resort time. Messi goes and there is literally fuck all left in Spain with the exception of Sevillas' success in Europe

I think it’s too late for him to go back now unless several members of the board stand down, which might be his end game, I really don’t think he’d use Pep like that though.

The contract situation is interesting though, as it states he can leave within 10 days of the CL final, but in the original date of June.
So it’s not exactly watertight, however, legally I think the date being stipulated would duck him over and his legal guys should have had stipulations should the date of the final have been delayed, but I’d have to agree with him, morally, Barca should honour the deal. Will they though?

If he takes it to court he has a good case - the clause was for the end of the Spanish season, the season was extended due to unforseen exeptional circumstances, therefore it is reasonable in law to expect the clause to be extended too. Anything else is empty posturing by people and entities with an axe to grind against City (as the supposed most likely destination for him - whether it's true or not).

The 250m is effectively a deferred signing on fee. We sign him. Make our money for the three years he's here then the City group give him 250m to go off and play MLS. No worries about complying with FFP that way.
