Seasonal Pep " Is He Staying/Going" Saga Thoughts

Anyone else think there is more going on than we are being told behind the scenes, with the annual Pep “is he going/staying” saga we have got so used to over these last few Seasons ?

Oliver Holt breaks the Story just before the Bournemouth game about Pep leaving. Of course we all know it was deliberate to unsettle the Squad for the Bournemouth game. Holt remains adamant the news has come from a source very close to Guardiola. If not Guardiola himself. Pep is a narcissist would any of us really be that surprised.

Why would Pep do that though I know you are all asking yourself, it makes no sense ?. Okay then, why not instantly pour cold water on Holt breaking story and make him look a complete twat ?.Fact is Pep didn’t, and is still even now, refusing to say if he is staying or going at the end of the Season. This whilst Fans are getting ready to give him a good send off on Sunday.

Pep cryptically repeatedly keeps saying I “still have a one year contract. I will sit down with the Chairman and discuss this next week.

I am starting to think he will not commit to longer than another Season with City.He would rather walk now.So Is hanging on in there for a multi-million pound pay off.Hence why he keeps repeating this 1 year contract.

Maresca has likely already agreed in principle verbally to a 3 Year contract with City and is waiting to start at the end of this Season. This after the Club has verbally told Maresca Pep was leaving at the end of this Season. Pep likely told the Club at some point this was going to be his last Season, even with the extension being optional on the Table. Notice though how that optional Season has become Pep saying “I still have a 1 year contract worth in excess of £20,000 000, no one walks away willing from that. Especially after just building a £13,000 000 home 100 meters from your ex wife.

He could as I said earlier have poured water on the Holt breaking news story and made him look really stupid. Also that would have been better than any prematch talk to the lads before the Bournemouth game. Fact is he didn’t end the speculation did he .He only added to it. We literally played in to Arsenal Hands by letting that story fester in the MSM tabloids. It harmed us considerably, and still is with everyone now speculating 115 negative result is imminent.

I think we have a situation here where Pep wants that last "optional year" paid up in a negotiated multi-million pound settlement. Having realised Maresca was told he was taking over at the end of this Season he believes contractually Maresca has been hired with that optional year still on the Table. Hence him now repeating the optional year becoming “I still have a 1 year contract.

I still think he will go because he won’t commit to longer than the 1 Season .The Club have already planned for life with Maresca. He will give the impression he was happy to work another Season until there is a financial settlement for what he believes he is now owed.

Why he will play the game of I was staying for 1 more year.It was the Club that hired Maresca prematurely i still had that optional year on the Table.

Read somewhere that Maresca leaked it to force clubs hand. I hope that’s what has happened and Pep doesn’t play these games and stays. Sadly it’s likely wishful thinking.

He signed a one year contract with an optional second year. I'm assuming there's clauses on both sides regarding 'taking up' that option.

Makes sense he'll have a chat with the chairman at the end of the season to see where we're at in that regard. It's the obvious time for the discussion, when the season ends.

Pretty straightforward. Not everything needs to be a conspiracy

Maresca also has an agreement in principle with Napoli btw. Just because he's part of City's succession plan doesn't mean he's already signed on the dotted line and it's a done deal

Mate you are over thinking the whole thing , to my knowledge not one credible source can 100% confirmed all these "leaked" stories, so called journos have absolutely no credibility, one day they can claim an exclusive and if it turns out be bollox they carry on as normal and no cunt will end their career for it bacause they've already made their cash off the back the clicks its drawn!

Not like the old days where a journo printed something and it was bollox, their own industry would call them out!

That said We are 1894 group have already come up with a Maresca song on the go

Okay as you say no conspiracy.

Why not make Holt look like the cunt he is then by pissing on his "leaving" exclusive before that Bournemouth game. that is what i would have done ?

Instead he only added to the speculation.

You could feel the negativity emanating through the TV.

Even now are you staying/going is greeted with "i talk to the Chairman next week"

Well there you go ,i actually didn't know that.

One gets the feeling there is more going on here than meets the Eye.

Maresca might be contemplating taking on the Napoli job. Many of our fans would be happy for sure.

Our Club though have him figured in to playing the City way as the heir apparent. Pep might be saying i am walking the end of the season regardless.

Maresca saying i don't get the job the end of this season i am going to Napoli.

Puts the Club in an awkward position with losing Pep the end of the next Season not committing.

And the possibility of losing their first choice manager to Napoli on a 3 year contract.

Only my opinion before the haters start.

Next week Pep could extend the 1 year to 3 years and everyone is happy.

Club will not be bothered then losing their first choice replacement for 3 years.

I hear you mate, and you could very well be right.

The fact we didn't categorically put that cunt Holt Pep Leaving exclusive to Bed before the Bournemouth game is it what has made me suspicious. No smoke without Fire sort of thing.

I just thought it was very telling the Club and Pep didn't immediately put it to Bed.

we are in the ridiculous situation with fans going to the game Sunday with many fans believing Pep is leaving based on Holt and MSM because they have heard nothing different from the Club.

Like i say i hear what you are saying.

Fact is though all this has caused an air of uncertainty. Without doubt it affected the players/fans at Bournemouth.

Agree with all this but why tf should it create uncertainty before the game when there was already talk of him leaving / weve had shite games where weve not been "unleashed" with bad team selections all year?

Cant have it both ways "players aren't playing for pep because he hinders them" AND players heart broken with breakint news he's leaving and everyone was shocked.

We have never gone after the press so why would we or Pep look to rubbish the likes of Holt with a statement. Purely my take but this parade on Monday ends with either the announcement that Pep is staying or we introduce his successor.

Could it be that Maresca is in, as Vinny has a contract until 2029...If Maresca does well then that's fine and we have time to see how Vinny works during the next 2 or 3 years so it's a win win...of course Pep staying is everyone's choice.

The only "playing the City" way available manager is Iraola.

If we are looking to keep the seat warm for Enrique or Kompany, this would be perfect.

My take
Marescas exit from Chelsea was much earlier than planned, I think he was lined up to take over at the end of next season.
Interest being shown in Maresca + a likely unwillingness on his side, fairly, to wait for us for another year while offers for his services are coming in, things change, maybe pep would decide to stay, maybe Kompany might be available and would be preferred, lots of possibilities that would be unfair on maresca to expect him to hang about on a promise

Ergo - Pep wants to do the right thing and leave earlier than planned so Maresca can take over, I read he told another manager he was getting very tired and needed a break. So that’s what I reckon has happened, could be wrong but its my hunch

No disrespect to Bournemouth but we have seen plenty of managers come from smaller PL clubs to take jobs in the top clubs, and struggle.
As good as season as he's had its as big a risk as maresca is.

I think Emery would do well with our squad. Really impressed with his job at Villa and also like how he conducts himself.

But don't think he'd walk away from his progress at Villa anyway.

The most bizarre thing about this, is that he has been very clear - and his most recent words on the subject about speaking to the owner suggests that he may even be wondering where the fuck this is coming from.

At the presser on Friday whether the following day's trip to Wembley for the FA Cup final would be his last visit there. "No way," he said, reminding reporters he had "one more year" on his contract.

And in an interview with BBC before Saturday's FA Cup final, when asked if he will still be at the club next season, he replied: "Yeah. I am here, I have a contract." But there can be no denying that he was taking a moment and tearing up during the celebrations, and was surprised the commentary didn't pick up on it.

He was also asked about Andoni Iraola's departure from the Cherries and whether he had thought about his own farewell. He said: "Next. So many times – I have one more year."

You are right of course.

I still think on this one occasion the Club should have confirmed or denied so our fans can prepare accordingly for the Villa game.
