Bernardo's Replacement

Assuming he goes in the summer, who on earth fills these shoes?

Although he's not been at his very best of late, on his day he's by far our best midfielder and his consistency over the years has been insane - I read he's Pep's most picked player rarely injured and has racked up 450 games, definitely legend territory even though I'd never have had him as first name on the teamsheet for most of that time.

I don't watch too much football any more so I don't know whose up and coming, but I think in the state we're in now, we need to break the bank for a ready made star, not a prospect.

Bernie has been playing very well recently. He is running his little socks off. It is a shame a few others are not pulling their weight. Reijnders definitely needs to step up, he seems to do a lot of running , but never really where the action is.

An excellent question and one which I cannot answer. I remember watching him for the first time when we played Monaco in the Champions League and there was a 2 minute spell in the first half when we could not get the ball off them when he passing and moving the ball all over the field.
I turned to my daughters and said that is the replacement for David Silva, and while he isn't the same type of player, he has served us very well and it will be a sad day when he leaves.

Bernardo can never ever be slated for not giving it his all - he’s one of us and has been since he first stated playing for us - that complete ‘ fuck you’ to Liverpool was legendary stuff.

I love the little bastard and he will be very very difficult to replace.

It's Elliot Anderson and we need him asap. Proper legs in the middle to win the ball back and drive us forward.

I'll miss Bern

No doubt Pep if still here will want a more established player but for me i would like to see Echeverri brought back into the fold,

Pound for pound he is probably the closest to Silva but i also have this hope he may be even better. He seems to have been cast adrift by Pep, but i'm hoping he will fuck off and we can bring on a few players.

Just finished watching Miracle The boys of 80 on Netflix.

Underdogs of USA kids beating all comers for the gold medal. Best sporting documentary i have seen in years and it shows what can be done with youngsters

My absolute favourite player in Pep's era.
As Carl mentioned, the Scouse moment made him a legend, but football-wise, he was unplayable at times.

I saw that Bernardo has only been unavailable for 9 matches due to injury since he has been with us. That's insane.

Easily right up there with my favourite players ever. Absolute monster of a player and I just love his desire, his will to win, his competitiveness and he is a fucking amazing player on top of that too.

I remember him absolutely running rings around us in Monaco and was over the moon when we got him that summer.

Short answer is, he is irreplaceable. There is only one Bernie. I would like to see if there is another player like him out there, Wirtz is already gone unless we be cheeky bastards.

One I like a lot is Vitinha, great engine and good technical ability too.

Good shout re Vitinha or however it's spelt as close as a ready made replacement as we could hope for.
Bernie puts most of this squad to shame with his desire and will to win. Love him to bits. 9 games missed in TOTAL fiuck me, some of our sick notes cannot make 9 games a season

I hope we offer him an extension we don’t have anybody that gets us like he does imo , I thought I read at the time that one of the bricks the murderers threw at our coach went through the window where Bernie was sat ? He is a Fookin Jack Russel , Yes find a replacement But Keep Bernie for him to work with .

Vitinha was at Wolves on loan under the now west ham manager santo. No wonder he was sacked , he didn't give the lad too may games. He is of the Bernie, Merlin mold. His contract is up in 2027. One to watch i would say , in the summer as he goes into his last contract year

Agree entirely with Bernardo. Seem to recall his nickname was bubblegum as the ball always stuck to him.

Top top player who always ran through brick walls for his team. We will miss him when he’s gone

Yeah his consistency has been something I don't think I can ever recall - a player who is always available, always shows up with an 8/9 out of 10 performance. He's I think only 19 games off overtaking D Silva as highest Premier League appearances for us and will fall just short by the end of the year, but in 1 year less.

At most other clubs he'd be classed as 'GOAT' - shows how much we've been spoiled with Merlin and KDB that others picked up the plaudits - were it not for the sheer volume of talent we have had in this era, this is a player who would have swept the board for POTY in most seasons he's played for us. The ever present glue that holds us together really.

Thing is, I don't even know how to categorise him or his position, which is why I can't think where you'd start to replace him

Bernardo has been a superb player, fitness, skill, battler and a massive heart. I'd definitely have him by my side in a battle. Impressed by him ever since we played Monaco years ago ( i also liked Mendy but that didn't turn out as well) Bernie has that extra edge that i love , always willing to stick it to a rival. His coffee cup display was superb, love him but sadly his legs are slowing down

Always first to the penalty spot to act as protector when we get a penalty. Smallest player on the pitch snarling at anyone who comes near it

He was possesed on that day, but for me, even if he scored twice, his best game was 2-1 vs Murdering Cunts in 2019, their only league defeat with Serge and Sane scoring.
That was for me one of the best performances of a player in any EPL game I've ever seen.
