Is the Premier League overrated?

So, is it?
For me, it feels like a PR machine with flawless packaging for sponsorship and viewership. But when it comes to the actual football and the value of many teams, it doesn’t always live up to the hype.
It’s still the best league in the world, but the others aren't as good as they were in the 80s, 90s and 2000s, so there aren't any other options out there,

Yes. League has 3-4 decent teams, the rest are no mark skid stains that whack 11 behind the ball every game

Depends on what we consider to be 'good'
I value the fact that the current financial structure brings equity (to a degree) by sharing baseline tv revenue equally in order that we don't just see the rich get richer (I'll leave out the PSR argument, as that's a different matter).
We have a league which can be won by Leicester, we have a league where Crystal Palace are currently 4th, and where anyone from the following pack could put a run together and get into Europe because of the strength of the league coefficient, and a league where well run clubs with 11,000 and 17,000 seat stadia finished top 10 last year and held their own for several seasons.
While Spain has also got a variety of small clubs in their league, their financial capabilities are restricted by the TV money distribution which would lead to most clubs outside the top 5 or 6 in Spain struggling to reach our Championship playoffs over a season, same applies with Germany and Italy.
Sadly while the premier league stands unique in the tv money distribution, the gerrymandering of coefficients in europe to reward success in the 1960s, and national PSR based on tiny TV revenues and gates, can only mean that the disparity between the haves and have nots in countries other than england can only get bigger.

By all measures the PL is the most watched league in the world
The money from broadcasters around the globe dwarfs that of other countries
It’s arguably the most competitive, though we ourselves have debunked that a little recently. But realistically there are four teams over the last decade who had a realistic chance of winning. I don’t believe that’s the case in Spain, France or Germany. Italy have had four different champions in the last 7/8 years but before that Juventus won 9 in a row
Most of the PL teams are in the top 40 for turnover
Most games are at virtually full capacity
It’s arguably the destination for most of the best players in the world. How many choose Italy or France or Germany over England? Not as many as choose England I’d suggest. The exception here could be Spain but that might be down to the historic links with South America, the climate, and the supposed pull of Madrid or Barcelona
I agree though with PP in that other leagues previously probably were better rated. But at the moment the PL is the best and if that is overrated what does that say about the rest?
You can only be better than your opponents or rivals as it were and the PL is better than it’s counterparts

But is it better because it raised the bar? Or the others turned to shit?
I am watching a youtube series ”Campionato Io Ti Amo”, a review of every season of the Italian football from the 70s until late 2000s.
Just incredible the quality, with all of the corruption and doping. Parma, Fiorentina, Lazio or Sampdoria were football powerhouses. Are other English teams like that in Europe? Except Spuds and WHU recently?
It seems the usual suspects perform in Europe. Chelsea most of all.
I remember a few years ago Burnley in Europa League. A shit show. Brighton underachieved a few years ago.

We've got 5 teams qualified for the CL through the league plus Spurs who won the Europa despite finishing 4th from bottom of the league.
All 6 of those teams have a very good chance of qualifying for the knock out stages.
Villa are probably strong favourites for the Europa as Palace are for the Conference.
Everyone has always talked up La Liga, Real Madrid have been beaten by us, dippers and Arse in the last few months. Arsenal smashed Atletico Madrid this season, we cruised past Villereal, Chelsea hammered Barca. If we are overrated, we're miles better than the rest.

By far the best league in the world but the decline of the Italian league and the domination of Bayern in Germany and Madrid/Barca in Spain certainly helps.

No. Like @stupot says
Look at the CL. Arse top and the rest of us have a chance of top 8.
No other country can do that.
Then look at the Europa League.
The Prem is levels above anything else.

PP - is your question, Is the Premier League the best league in the world? Or is it what the title says.
It's massively overrated. But because every other league is dog shit it's the best.

The title.
We can all agree it is the best, but exactly: massively overrated.

I think football, soccer, whichever you prefer, is overhyped globally.
Overhyped by tv companies, media, FIFA, UEFA and all the others just for money.
Look at the hype around that world club cup. Utterly shite tournament.

Look at the comments above mate. Making out it's class, it's the best because the rest are crap. 11 men behind the ball every week.

No for me. Easily the strongest league in the world right now, looking both at the top and the overall quality.
Yes, the top three in Italy might've been better i the early to mid-90's, but it was never as competitive across the board m

Well, for me, The Premier League's inflated status often rests on the exaggerated reputations of its players, many of whom are seen as world-beaters simply because they play in a league that enjoys heavy media exposure. In reality, a lot of these players are far from the elite talents they are made out to be. Take van Dick: a solid defender, but his image as one of the best in the world has been artificially sustained by Premier League hype and relentless media focus, despite his occasional lapses in form. In many cases, the quality of players in the Premier League is often no higher than that of those in lesser European leagues, yet the media machine and commercial interests ensure they are elevated to superstar status, as if the league’s brand alone is a guarantee of individual greatness.
This disparity becomes even more apparent when comparing the Premier League to leagues that, while not as glamorous, produce players of equal or even better technical quality. For example, in smaller leagues or less marketed competitions, players may not command the same transfer fees or media attention, but many perform consistently at a high level without the inflated status. Yet in the Premier League, the value of a player skyrockets based largely on domestic hype and media narrative rather than objective talent. This leads to a distorted market where players who might not even stand out in other top leagues are hailed as world-class simply because they’re playing in England. For me it's clear example of how the media-driven hype surrounding the Premier League often makes players bigger than they actually are, especially when compared to less-publicized leagues that produce quality football without the same inflated recognition.
Simply put, it's the best league in the world. But the others have declined at an incredible pace.
