Was listening to a podcast with him on just the other week. One for him that win today

I don’t mind admitting I cried my eyes out yesterday, and I’m feeling it again this morning. It's stirred up so many happy and sad memories.

Back in 2005, the first time I managed to get my dad out of the house after mum passed away, was to see Ricky beat Kostya Tszyu at the MEN. It was the first time in a long time I’d seen my dad feel anything like happiness.

We travelled to Boston, and then Vegas 4 times during Ricky's peak, and we were lucky to share some of it with my 90 year old grandad too. I’m grateful beyond words to Ricky for the precious times he gave me with my dad, and for the first time in my late 20s, I finally bonded with my dad over something.

For that, he’ll always be more than a boxer - he was a lifeline for our family when we needed it. That’s why the news has hit so hard for me - the bitter irony that he helped my dad find light in a very dark time, and yet he was waging his own private fight that, like my dad, even the greatest warriors ultimately can't win.

RIP Ricky, a true Manchester legend.

Thank you for the memories I’ll carry for the rest of my life.
