How did you get on in the mid 90s?
I can still see it now. Nicky Summerbee dribbling along aimlessly out of defence, runs into Nigel Clough. Ball runs free to Ryan Giggs.
He advances toward the penalty area. Keith Curle, standing in his way, points at the top left corner of the goal with his right arm (as he bizarrely was known to do). Giggs hits it right into said top corner. Immel didn't see it, as he couldn't see shots from outside the area.
Absolute fucking shambles. But ah, they were great them days!
Point is, are we really that bad now?
Yeah Back in the day we were absolute fucking dogshit, but at least we knew we were fucking dogshit. You’d turn up, watch Summerbee lose the ball, Curle pointing at everyone , and Immel picking the ball out of the net… and us lot would just laugh because this was City. The football was shot more
often than not but the laugh we had in the stands and the togetherness made it a brilliant day out - I loved going to away games - best day out ever.
Now it’s flipped. We’re watching one of the best sides in the world with lots of players in our squad that we never dreamed of having ,and winning has become the norm. So when we don’t batter someone, people shrug and go “whatever” and it’s not because we don’t give a fukc just ‘cos we’ve been spoilt rotten and the lows don’t feel tragic anymore – they just feel fuckign annoying and someone has to take the blame.
So yeah, different eras, different vibes. Back then the football was shite but the bond amongst us lot was brill - Now the bond is nowhere near as strong as back then.
Nowhere near .
