New Tactic

Perhaps not new but one we have used a little previously. I noticed in the Burnley match Ederson direct to Haaland seemed to be used more times than normal. Not our usual playing out of defence and a very direct tactic but with Edersons passing and Haalands power it looked pretty dangerous. We have had success with it before especially with Aguero. Interested to see if this becomes more used.

We do need to be more direct with Haaland at times. He makes great runs and doesn’t get the ball. He was right to have a go at Bern, they should be looking for him more.

Also with Ederson looking for him, probably more of a tactic to make the opposition drop deeper so that we can play out from the back. Ederson goes long a few times early on and their defenders will drop deeper and their midfielders can either leave a big gap behind them or it will force them to drop too. Win win for us

I liked it and I am sure Haaland enjoys that physical challenge.

Burnley pressed us very well at the start of the game, the counter to this is ederson going long which as Mase said forced them back and helped us gain control. We are one of the few teams in the world that can do both sides of this so effectively and its huge for us. We did it against arsenal when we battered them at home. Many ways to slin a cat and we seem to be the masters of it.

I'm all for this for the reasons called out. Grear weapon to have to beat the press. To be fair to Erling, he has been looking for that pass since he arrived. If we work on releasing him early, his goal stats are going to be ridiculous

It does beg the question of when we go long to Haaland why Alvarez isn’t in proximity to take advantage
