The perfect replacement for Gundo would be Rodri imo. Rodri further up would do a good job. He scores goals, holds the ball well, technically great.
I’d get Rice in to do Rodders role and move Rodri further forward.

Gundog was a slow burner for me . Thought he wasn't a first 11 starter for 4 years, didn't score enough and was too slow. Came good in the end but at 32 it's time to let him go if he doesn't want to sign for us again. Always loyal, not a moaner but hey ho a replacement will be found if we haven't done so already. Foden, Lewis, Stones they can all cover midfield positions

Or only if he'd stayed one more year for the 4 in a row?

Don’t think he’s quite at that level and also think that’s part of why he’s going. Just my opinion, but if Yaya didn’t get one, Gundo doesn’t.
Tracking back is overrated.

The thought of him in a Barca shirt is unsettling.

Last contract in serious football. He is a great freebie. Barca though or stay with the Pep and our organisation, odd one as Barca will play games in the abandoned Olympic stadium. Not the Camp Nou which is being fumigated after all the bullshit…

Sad to see him go as he's been a loyal servant yo the club especially in the past couple of years.

Total class, on and off the pitch, will be missed, but it was time for him to go, no regrets.

500mil WTAF
These mean absolutely nothing (especially for older players on shorter contracts), and they just have to be included in contracts by Spanish law as a legal formality. A few days ago, Barca bought a 17-year-old from the Croatian third tier and put a €400 million buy-out clause in his contract.
Overall, I think it's a shame he's gone. One year here, with another that we'd have most likely exercised, or two years at Barca, with a third they almost certainly won't exercise due to financial issues. Unless they offered him a far larger salary, I guess the move was for personal reasons, rather than career-related ones.

Thanks Gundo, it's been emotional.

Initially was very disappointed to see him go, especially seeing who he has gone to.
But on reflection it may not be all bad. Rice, if he comes, may turn out to be a decent replacement. If Kocavic hits the ground running then he could slot into no6, with Rodri playing more advanced. Foden could get more game time in a more central role. Or Jackie even.
Gundogan was a great player for us. But as we've seen lately, players retiring and moving on who we thought irreplaceable turned out not to be so. Kompany, Yaya Silva, Aguero and a good few others have not only been replaced but arguably improved. Certainly the team now is at its peak
And I'm sure we will all agree to wish him all the best. Mostly. Unless he plays against us!

Good post.
I thought we’d struggle to replace Yaya’s goals from midfield but we evolved. The same will happen next season. We’ll be okay.
