Football podcasts

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Football podcasts

Postby dazby » Tue Nov 21, 2017 7:51 am

I know that we have discussed this before but it may be worth revisiting. I take an hour train trip to and from work so I plough through them.

Here’s the British City ones I listen to:

The Guardian Football Weekly. Max Rushden is ok but Barry Glendinning is the real star. Very fair and balanced with no excess rag talk. A staple in the weekly listen.

The Totally Football Show. The breakaway from the Guardian pod. AC Jimbo hosts this. They get some very interesting guests and the episode where Mark Schwarzer was a panelist was must listen.

Sunday Supplement. It’s the TV show as a pod. Only the occasional listen these days thanks to Johnny Crossan posting the run sheet. But the weeks when Matin Samuel is on is always good stuff.

Bluemoon podcast. I listen to it mainly for Howard Hockin’s rants. It’s a consistent pod but the phrase "less is more" applies here. It would be infinitely more interesting if it were half the length.

Blue Tuesday. Used to but no more. It recycles info rather than add anything to the debate.

Set piece menu. I’ve just recently been introduced to this one. Four friends chat about football while eating food. The good bit about the show is that the subject matter is very interesting ( last one was about youth development) and Andy Hinchcliffe is one of the four so City get brought up regularly. Check it out.

Quickly Kevin will he score. A nostalgic 90’s football pod. It’s got a bit jaded but when they have a good guest it’s brilliant. Check out the episodes with Matt Le Tissier and Paul Merson.

There’s an Aussie one called Santo, Sam & Ed’s Football podcast which is very funny. The sound bites they use from Italian Football are very funny and they love keeping up to date with Balo and Harry Redknapp.

Got any suggestions/reviews?

Magic sponge is far and away the best. Two comedians and Jimmy Bullard get old pros on and talk all the funniest parts of football.

Also like listening to 606 on 5live after we play or united lose. Callers in meltdown entertains me greatly.

I listen to blue Tuesday and blue moon also both enjoyable.
Tracking back is overrated.

I subscribe to the 93:20 podcast. Give it a go if you like Howard Hockin - he's on there more often than not.
I like their standard review/preview shows; it's basically like 3-4 good posters from here would sit and talk City over a pint or two. But they also do some special episodes, like historical ones, and they recently had an hour explaining the new City annual report.

Just listened to the two first youth football episodes of the Set Piece Menu, and really enjoyed them. Thanks for the tip Dazby!

Football Ramble is a good listen, it's not very serious and covers a lot quite vaguely.

Listen to Totally Football Show since the start of this season, binned the Guardian one off since the split, Glendenning is absolute nonsense.

Not sure if he ran it, I know he was involved but not sure how involved.

He still has his own youtube channel that he posts reviews/analysis/vlogs and what not on.

Steven did a vlog a while back where he said that the sponsorship/funding for BlueMoonRisingTV had been withdrawn which is a shame as I enjoyed seeing the fans' post-match reactions. It was a lot better than ArsenalFamTV

They didn't film inside the ground - it was post-match fans' reactions - you clearly have no idea what you were watching if you watched it at all (Unless you spend the whole time outside the ground when the games are on)

They did a bit inside grounds when we were playing away before kick off , used to get a good vibe with the city away fans on it . You are correct about the post match stuff as I nearly fell over the cunts many a time on the way out in a pissed up state (main entrance next to the Mercedes Dealership) I guess everything has its time span etc etc was good at the time though for me :)
