This has been the shortest January transfer window I can remember.

We've known for 6 months where we need strengthening and we appear to have made no serious effort to sign anyone.

5th place here we come

Even if we do not sign anyone this window, we have more than enough for top 4.

very hard to find really good players whose current clubs are willing to let them go, are not cup tied, and can be bought for a good price in the january window

But we bought Bony in a January window.......oh, hang on, what am I saying ??

Seriously though, that might make an interesting question i.e. which players bought in January, not necessarily by ourselves, have proved to be worthwhile purchases in some way, whether it be in value for money terms, potential realised, impact made for their Clubs, fee received if/when sold on etc etc. ??

Does Jesus really qualify as a January transfer ??

All in all, it really is a difficult time for team strengthening.

Dzeko

Jesus does count, the agreement was made last summer but the transfer didn't happen until January.

Evra, Matic, Mascherano and Dempsey were all successes. Tevez to West Ham was in the summer was it not?

But there aren't many over the last decade

Anyone remember why it was brought in in the first place? As pointless as the guy who fits indicators onto BMWs

To stop bigger clubs from buying players from smaller clubs they are competing with in order to fuck up their season.

I doubt we have not made any serious moves to sign anyone. We just aren't going to make a panic buy and may know it's better to wait until summer.

We may sign one fullback, or centre midfielder (Nzonzi) but we may not as Fernandinho is returning and should help with the defence. Our attack is looking like it will carry us more so with Jesus and Sane starting to look like players that could help fuel it the rest of the season.

Ummm...how so?

- Signed Gundogan to help replace Yaya in centre midfield
- Signed Stones as a long term way to address centre defence, and as one who can play in Pep's system(s)
- Came to an agreement with Laporte to help for the same reasons as either a left sided centre half or fullback but he pulled out at the last minute
- Tried to sign Bonucci (probably didn't want to leave) after this fell through
- Signed Sane for a big fee because might go to Bayern the next season and also to challenge for Navas/Nasri's place (at least)
- Signed the most sought after Brazilian talent since Neymar, Jesus, to also help challenge Nacho/Kun/wingers and perhaps be our future no. 9
- Signed Nolito on the cheap, who is a highly intelligent player who can also score, also to challenge Navas/Nasri for their places

Yes, we needed fullbacks, but we spent so much elsewhere, a good amount of which went towards Stones, Sane and Jesus, who if we didn't go for last summer we may never have signed (the last two especially), so I think Txiki/Pep took a calculated risk and would solve that problem this summer. We spend more than anyone else last summer, so that would have meant spending even more, which with Laporte or Bonucci we were prepared to do, but then we had less options.
