Step up mister Maffeo?

Step up mister Maffeo?

Postby PeterParker » Wed Oct 19, 2016 9:50 pm

Heavy reports on Zaba that he might be out 2 or 3 months. With Sagna also injured, I think is time for our lad to step up.

I certain do not want to see Clichy as a right back again.

Well if he can't be trusted to play there in his natural position now, he may as well move on.

Hope to see him used in the league.

Been looking forward to seeing him get a run in the team. Impressed me more than the other kids in preseason for his consistently sensible play and positioning. Shit circumstances, but maybe the only way he was going to get a chance

I'd like to see Angelino given a chance at LB too

So would I but the only worry about putting two rookie fullbacks in this defence is, we don't currently have a stable CB pairing.

Stones is nearly as young as them and I'm not convinced Otter is the one for them to look to for guidance.
You'd need a Vinny at his best to talk them through their initial games.
It would also leave us quite short on height, in defence and experience.

Definitely time for maffeo and let's stop worrying about the defence and just get it tight in the last 3rd. It's scoring goals we need to start getting right. Maffeo will be fine.

This. Other teams haven't had an issue throwing young fullbacks out in recent years, nor should we. We should be doing little defending most games anyway and considering we're still leaking with the few chances we allow how could it be any worse?
Tracking back is overrated.

I'd play Maffeo at right back and Clichy at left back rather than rearrange the whole team/piss about with Fern 1 or Gundogan. But who knows what he'll do while he is still learning about his squad?
Your right leg I like; I've got nothing against your right leg. The trouble is neither have you.

I would start him too, of all positions been eased in at full back is probably the easiest one to start in.
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,
silly boy should know for sure,
feed the goat and he will score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A year or so back I felt Maffeo was the best actual defender I had seen within our academy. Reads the game well , tackles well is tenacious and quite strong although not particulatly big and powerful. Vieira had used him as a centre back on many ocassions as part of his learning. Not the greatest with the ball at his feet going forward but that part of his game has been improving.

Despite obviously lacking experience I think he might be a better defensive full back that Zaba and should be given the nod with Sagna missing as well.

A day or two on from the Barca game, do we have any further reports on Zabba's injury ??

Given what we know about our Argentinian 'Warrior', can we definitely say he won't be available to play against Southampton ?? I could well imagine him turning out heavily strapped up and playing his heart out.

Out of southampton game according to Pep.

This is huge chance for Maffeo, could work out like Bellerin, he was third choice til he got his chance and now look at him. I have hge hopes for him.

Same here DC.

If Maffeo does step up to the plate, it could prove to be a seminal moment for the team, opening the door to one or two others.

I think (hope) Ian already did that four our youths.

That being said, I expect Clichy to play there.

Think this might be a pivotal moment. If he plays Matfeon then the door is opened to all the young players. I think he may pull back Kompany and go 3 athe the back against Southampton which will stall the progress of lots of other young players.
