Maybe not for £93m but he is still a good player. Fern is 30 and will need replacing sooner rather than later

Fern isn't showing any signs that getting older is effecting him though mate. He's still a class above most.

Oh I know. I thinking of two years or so. We made that mistake with Yaya in not sourcing a replacement for when his star loses it's shine. It's arguable we still have found his replacement

Two years or so?

Mate fernandinho, barring injury has at least 5 more years at the top level.
Especially if he will be protecting the back four in a pep team

At some point OD, he might well be in the back four - and he'd be brilliant there as well.

Lots of excellent performances today from us but for me, the biggest take was that...STILL...when Silva is at his best, no one can touch him.

A truly phenomenal player.

Not on his todd he won't. There's no way he will play 50 games a year for the next five years maintaining his current tempo and fitness levels. Not many midfielders survive the rigours of a PL season whilst being all action like what he is currently, after 33. Hope I am very wrong obviously, but in my view it would be prudent to look next year or 18 months or so for his replacement. Imagine Txiki already is scouting for this to be honest.

I've never seen a player like him that seems to slow everything around him when the ball lands at his feet.

Well, not since zidane.

It's matrix material right in front of your eyes.

Amazing player with years left in him under pep

I must admit I was worried after last season if he could ever get back to his best. But he's looking so sharp now.

He's exactly the type of player Pep would have had at Barca and he's going to be at the centre of everything we do this season.

agree for all of my praise for Fernandinho in the above post Silva was MOM for me - we played (initially at least) ferna in front of the back 4, silva in front of him and KDB in front of Silva, each with a right to roam and in the first half in particular the rags couldn't handle it.

Will the old model of a first team and squad players be the model going forward though? Currently we have a PL/CL squad plus youths - who don't appear to be playing any football (apart from Gunn)!

Going forward, will the model not be to have a flexible squad that can cope with PL, domestic cups and CL using rotation without any loss of quality or playing style? In that model there would be no requirement for anyone to play the traditional 50 or so games per season.

Thing is with pogba is that theyve paid money youd expect to pay for a matchwinner. Hes a very good player...but hes under pressure to justify the fee..and in his position, with the way scum used to play he should really only be a glorified recycler of possession. Thats what their central midfield was, in essence. They played simple passes from there to their wide players who would supply their goalscorers. It was simple yet effective over a number of seasons with players slotting into that way of playing...since ferguson went thats gone..and indeed the signs were their prior to that that they were losing their identity as a team...just as liverpool did many years ago. They spend 100 mil on a player when they didnt need to. But hey, I hope they carry on in this vein.

I saw him once today. That was when a midget more commonly known as David Silva outjumped him to a header

I suppose it'll only be a matter of time before the call goes out about him not being played in his best position. Well you'd expect a bit of versitility from "the best midfielder in the world" for the money they paid for him.

Reminded me of Yaya.

Which is probably why Yaya didn't even make the squad

Pogba in player who doesn't turn up for big games not turning up for a big game shocker. They need to sell him and buy him back at a cheaper price. Fucking mugs.

If it doesn't work out I'm sure they will be able to work out a deal to loan him back to an Italian side in January, might have to subsidise his wages mind.
