He didn't just say he was magnificent but said he can play where he wants and basically how he wants. Today I though he played in a strange deep role, most of the time on the left side ( cos his one main pass is the long diagonal to the right wing) and did virtually nothing.

England already had Dier ( and I thought he was too) sitting in midfield and that should have been enough against a poor Slovakia. But somehow Shrek sat out there when we needed a midfield player of quality to unlock a defence or make breaks into goalscoring positions. He did none of that yet some are suggesting he played well. I hope he plays well like that on Saturday as for me he was a waste of time.

If you're given a free role you need to be intelligent enough to make the most of it - that rug wearing idiot's idea of positional sense was highlighted as a weakpoint by the halftime analysis. When we needed someone linking the midfield and attack and creating chances against a team that was sitting back he was almost level with our defensive line carrying the ball out of defence and trying to hit long passes to no one. Complete moron who needs instructions on how to fasten his own shoelaces. And some tools in the media are trying to push the idea of him as a manager when he finally does the decent thing and retires.

him being allowed play where he wants, means him doing what he feels comfortable in doing. That is bad news for england in my view, if this is what BFS is going to persist with.
Preaching to the converted I know, as you've all said all there is to say about the England set up. You need a major root and branch overhaul and I'm not certain Sam is going to be the Messiah. Could be just another false prophet.
Actually that may be a bit unfair on Sam. he may well try to be his own man, but the big failing in him that I see is that, he now has the cream of English players to choose from (take that any way you like) and truth is he's never had a side with that kind of talent before. I'm not sure he'll know what to do with it.

A good Start for Ireland.

Two bookings for Ireland for absolutely nothing. Ward won a tackle and Hendricks jumped for s ball.
This after two certain yellows not given against Serbia.
I can see us finishing with 10 men here.

Is the ref Marriner or Clattenburg?

Think he's Hungarian. Not sure, but yet another foul goes unpunished. He's being very lenient to the Serbs. Having said that Irwland have not been good since they scored.
Serb keeper looks very iffy.

In all honesty Ireland have been as poor in possession as ever I have seen them.
We're fortunate to be ahead.
Serbia have been very wasteful and sluggish in front of goal. Randalph has spilled a couple in the six yard area.
We really don't have any quality players. It's all pure effort and grind.
It'll get you so far but drains you in the end.

I know I'm talking to myself here, but Ireland are shambolic.
Serbian equaliser has been a long time coming.
As I type they've just been awarded a penalty. Wasn't one.
There you go 2-1 and it's what we deserve really. After watching City trying to play beautiful football so far this season. This is really hard to watch. We really are poor.

Silva another goal and assist today. Nolito came on at HT and he has an assist too. It's just Liechtenstein but still good to see them continuing their good form

Nolito and Silva running the show again for Spain. Silva just got his second. Another assist for Nolito, makes it a couple of assists each. The rag full back should be very afraid

We robbed it.
Poorest I've seen of Ireland in a long time and that's saying something.
Total lack of ambition footballs-wise.
Bad and all as most individuals were I blame O'Neill as much as any of them.
We only woke up when we went a goal down.
Serbia were very shakey at the back. Their keeper was crap, but we didn't do a lot to trouble them for 70 minutes.

It's purgatory watching this kind of football.
Roll on Saturday.

Utterly depressing seeing Quinn coming on just as we went 2-1 down but fair play to the ginge, he got stuck in.

Didn't see that equaliser coming, it's a great result.

Ref was a shambles, that was an awful dive for their pen, obvious on first look that he'd thrown himself.

Wonder what the craic was with Kolarov?
