This Catholic / Protestant thing is bollocks! No matter how hard anyone tries to shoehorn City and Unit$d into this artificial separation, it just won't happen - us Mancs are too streetwise for this.

And as an Irish Catholic Manc myself, I always thought if anything, we were a Jewish club anyway!

Nice post.

However, I don't think our owners would regard us as a Jewish club somehow.

United had a definite catholic connection during the Busby era (i.e. Louis Edwards) - apparently all the players had to go to church in Didsbury on Sunday. Other than that I reckon its bollocks too.

We were actually born out of a non-affiliated working men's club established by the daughter of the church rector and two churchwardens, rather than the church itself.

I liked Gary James suggestion on Twitter on news of the draw

@GaryJamesWriter

Maybe @ManCity & @celticfc shd make their CL games tributes to 2 great brothers Willie & Tom Maley-In 1904 they won SFA & FA cups for MC & C

Did the daughter actually have anything to do with the club's formation or was she just being spitroasted by the wardens at the time they came up with the idea?

She is reputed to have said 'It's all very well, but I'd rather be watching football,.
