Extends contract to 2021

The 19-year-old Nigeria international, who scored 14 times in all competitions last season, is one of the game’s finest young forwards and will now stay with the Club until at least 2021.

Iheanacho said: “I can't express how I'm feeling! I'm very happy to sign my new deal for this Club, I'm excited.

"I just need to keep working hard and express my feelings on the pitch, and work really well and do great things for the team. I'm happy and I appreciate everything the Club has done for me so far at this point so I really need to help and work for them as well.”

Manager Pep Guardiola added: “Kelechi is a natural goal-scorer. I knew about him before, but I’ve been really impressed with him since I arrived.

"I like his personality, his attitude, his ability – we hope to help him reach the highest level and to realise his full potential.”

Iheanacho made a first-team impact at City back in 2014 on the summer tour of America, having caught the eye for Nigeria at the Under 17 World Cup a year before.

The affable forward overcame injury challenges in 2014/15 to serve more notice of his ability for City youth sides, scoring in the FA Youth Cup final against Chelsea and in the International Premier League Cup final win over Porto.

His meteoric rise continued with a Premier League debut against Watford in August 2015 and the next game saw Kelechi come off the bench to score a 90th minute winner against Crystal Palace.

That was one of many season highlights from the youngster, including a January hat-trick at Villa in the FA Cup, and his final tally of 14 was only bettered by Etihad Player of the Season Kevin De Bruyne and Argentinian ace Sergio Aguero.

Iheanacho’s goal on the final day of the season against Swansea that secured a 1-1 draw ultimately helped City into the Champions League qualifiers.

Now the Club and Kelechi can look forward to many more crucial goals.

And does the contract leangth mean that Pep intends to stay longer than three years or just to give him good conditions for the coming three years?

Well what I take from it is that we're not immediately looking for another striker imo.

Nacho said in the video that it will change his families lives so must be a decent wage increase, indicates to me pep fully intends on using him regularly? "Natural goal scorer and very good attitude" said Pep

To answer your question properly, I've no idea if Pep will stay longer than 3years but it clearly shows he holds him in high regards and will stop other clubs from sniffing anytime soon.

Good news all round. There was a point last he was allegedly asking for silly money. He's a huge talent, make no mistake, and it's great to have it resolved

Exactly NB, iirc some were of the opinion he was being Billy big bollox, but obviously not the case reading peps comments and watching his interview.

Obviously has some way to go to be consistently top class like Aguero but at least we get to see if he can

Delighted to hear this news, the kid has huge potential and can see him getting plenty of game time under Pep.

Have to feel he was criminally under used last season, Manuels persistence with Bony was a bit of a joke when Nacho was impressing every chance he got.

And if he is Billy big pants it doesn't matter as long as it doesn't disrupt the team and he produces.

Yeah, I guess that's what can be read into it.

Great news.....he's a doozer. MP said he was not an out and out striker, maybe a number 10 but he looks like a goal machine to me.

apparently a long lost uncle has emailed him saying that he has $50,000,000 locked in account and has asked ian to transfer a mere $10,000 to release it. in return ian will get $1,000,000. easy money!

Seems like one of the most humble and level headed successful young players around. Every answer is just "Need to work hard and keep improving for the team...", even when asked to describe himself. Love to see that, and it's the type of attitude that makes a player 2x as good in 5 years time

Happily, he can play 9 and 10 so will get plenty of game time under Pep.

A great unselfish assist for the Nolito goal.

Yes I agree. No idea what Pellegrini was talking about .

I'd like to think Ian will get a start on Wednesday

I think he largely played as a 10 before he signed for us.

Come to think of it, Justified Logic asked in another thread for any evidence that showed Pellegrini helped develop Kelechi over the last couple of years, perhaps this is it.

Something amiss if he doesn't

Defo starter, no need to run Aguero's legs into the ground on a dead rubber.

Wonder if Yaya's up for a game.

Unfortunately for him I don't think Pep thinks he is.

Where would he play anyway? Hard to see it right now.
