Team to pick Captain says Pep

Postby CTID Hants » Wed Jul 27, 2016 1:28 pm

With Vincent Kompany still struggling with injury Pep Guardiola says deciding his captain for the start of the season will be left to his players.

Guess we'll find out in due course what the team think of YaYa, my money would be in either Joe or Zabba.

Personally I'm not a fan of any keeper being Captain.

If you can't watch the video, basically Pep says he's only known the players 3-4 weeks, the players have been together and know each other so it's their choice.

I didn't get to see Bayern game, who captained that? Not that many senior players were involved

I don't think Zabba will be a regular starter. Sagna was better than hi all last season. Otherwise he would be an obvious choice.
My money i on Hart. I think he is well-liked by the other players, and he is certain to start if not injured.

I'm the same as you when it comes to GKs as captains.

If Zabba's only staying on as backup, then it's unlikely to be him. Would Clichy, Sagna or de Bruyne perhaps be in with a shout? How good is Sagna's English? I don't think I've ever watched an interview with him.

Fuck me he's been in England 9 years - if he can't speak it now he's a real thicko. However I think he may not be too loud on the field.

As for Hart - someone said after the Euro debacle that Lloris is calm, collected and solid behind his defence whereas Hart is always shouting and screaming and looking on edge. Thinking about it he really is, all the jerky movements, the quick chewing gum, the screaming and bawling YAYA YAYA YAYA as we hear above all else.

Maybe there is something in this - I think if I was on the pitch listening to that I would have been thinking 'for Christ's sake shut the fuck up'.

Fernandinho seems to be the constant - vote Ferdy.

You're probably right Noolie, like I say, nothing against Joe personally I think it should be a defender or midfield player.

If Pep is going to be up on his feet in technical area barking orders then I'm guessing that if each player is doing as instructed Pep sees the job as a formality for the match/officials and more a spokesman of team to management?

His English is good from what I've heard on the YouTube vids.

I called Fernandhino mid last season when Vinny and Zabba weren't playing and YaYa was missing supposedly in action and got shouted down.

KDB somebody just mentioned is too new and too young IMHO, can't see some senior players taking baby face seriously?

If last season is anything to go on then lead by example I'd back Fernandhino all day long

Second to keepers strikers are a definite no for me, they have one job and one job only...the onion bag!

Absolutely Hants. GK and forwards would never be my choice of captain. Always a defender or midfield general/enforcer. Fernandinho would also be my shout.

Pep's statement makes very little sense to me.

He is saying it cannot be Kompany because he is injured.
Then he says its up to the players to pick a captain - so he has to mean that the captain will be in the team.

How do the players know who will be in the team?

I think Hart is similar to Peter Schmeichel in personality and Schmeichel made a fine captain when Keane wasn't playing.

A goalkeeper can see everything in front of them. They can see the whole field all at once. If they can shout loud enough (I used to be able to hear Schmeichel clear as day from the second tier of the Kippax) then I don't see a GK being captain as a problem
