I reckon he'd be a decent choice. It depends, however, on how much of a 'Yes Man' the FA would want him to be. Would he have to mollycoddle the likes of Lallana and pick players to appease broadcasters and sponsors, or could he drop players who simply weren't up to performing the way he wanted?

I was actually going to write this in my last post here.

He knows and gets along with the players in the Prem, but I was suspecting maybe he has some of the same issues with regards to stubbornness and not developing young players that the FA are likely interested in...hence the Klinsmann rumours.

It cant be possible to be as bad as woy was in that tournament...but we could always go one better and not qualify for russia..which would take some doing as the qualifying group is only a tad more problematic on paper than the last one. Whoever they appoint, if he doesnt give rooney a ring and say "your done, i need to take a new direction", id have no faith at all...because however you look at the way england could set up tactically to claw back some credibility and move forward rooney doesnt fit into it. Hes a spare part.

Would he be among the players in the get togethers working with them..will he be ignoring the temptation to pick players on the basis of who they play (or sit on the bench) for or will he be another pick the best 11 that fits the FA template and then sit on my hands type?...england really do need someone to take the reigns and crack the fucking whip. Fuck the pretty football let others play that, we are years from being able to select ball players all over the pitch.. right now we need a direction. Im not sure klinsmann will do this. I think Allardyce would be the choice for me, if the players we had showed they could adapt to something more complicated id say go for it but they are meat and potatoes, any fancy cuisine is off the menu.

BFS is not a bad shout for my money. Its not as if there are a lot of candidates that are knocking down the door.

At least he probably wont pander to the prima donnas in the fold and have the buggers working as a team. All i really want is for us to pick players who are in form and in the right position

Good article. Very valid point regarding actually coaching the game and coaching the man. Players are picked for the national side because they are already good enough. What they need more often than not is the ability to fit into a different way of playing to their club side and to have the belief they are good enough to win things as it's been so long as a nation that we have been successfull.

I agree totally - the England job is not rocket science, and as much as I'm not a fan of his, I would have had Allardyce in years ago. His 'style' of football isn't as bad as it's made out, and he gets players up for the games. And basically, when you get your players together for a tournament once every 2 years, its getting the players up for the games and havinig the tactical nous to win 1 off games that counts, how good a coach you are doesn't even come into it.

I don't give a fuck how the England manager 'coaches' players, his job isn't to make them better, it's to manage them and inspire them make to fit in an unfamiliar system and motivate them to win games. Nothing more, nothing less.

Edit to say, that would rule out the likes of Mancini and Pellegrini, as they have a certain rigid philosophy on how they play, and will shoehorn inappropriate players into those roles, just like Hodgson and Pellers did with Sterling, and every England manager did for years with Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard and Scholes
