No and we're still in NATO. And I'm still going to Spain twice a year. :-)

However will we survive?

I should point out that both Ireland and Denmark have voted to leave in the past. Both are still in. Most of our politicians want to stay in. Expect a lot of smoke and mirrors and some 'wonderful new deal' in the next 12 months.

Competitive ability and survival are not quite the same, no?

I don't think most politicians would be wise to go against a democratic process where its citizens vote on an issue in a democracy, and then change their mind when the result doesn't go as they would have liked...but what do I know?

Maybe we will be so lucky that we will be given "guest poster" visas that we need to apply for to renew every season just in case the majority wants to ban any of us, and we will at least be prevented from participating in any of the polls.

Ireland didn't vote to leave. We did vote against the Lisbon treaty and the Nice Treaty as far as I can remember and both times we were told, 'Stop messing around lads, there's only two choices on the ballot paper. How could you stupid Irish get the wrong answer?'
And that was from our own government.
Each time we were made vote again. You were given the impression that we would keep voting until we got it right.

What you've voted on is different though.
It was in or out. Not changing the rule book.

Nool and Swales4ever will lead the negotiations and represent us when meeting with WW and KK. How and when we will leave is up to the negotiating parties who I expect to act responsibly.

Manchester voted to stay.
Scotland overwhelmingly voted to stay.
Northern Ireland voted to stay. All the border counties and Belfast by 3:1.

England and Wales voted to leave.

I think you should have another referendum to draw up a New UK.

Manchester can join us if you like.

Oddly enough, the lowest turnouts in urban areas were in Newham (London), Glasgow, Manchester, Londonderry/Derry and Belfast, from what I can interpret from maps.

Usually means, don't know or don't care.
Also significant that they are urban areas that voted remain in the middle of areas that voted leave.

Re: Brexit

Postby Swales4ever » Fri Jun 24, 2016 2:16 pm

As someone who had been breed and grown to regard at The British Society and Democracy as THE Benchmark, I just fell very sad (rather than sick) at the way Britain have waived Its wise, everlasting traditional stance for Parliamentary Democracy, in favour of plebiscitarian democracy, whereas, necessarely, guts prevail over intelligence.
There is no wonder why Britain, historically, have so very rarely devolved pivotal decisions to referenda instead of parliamentary decisional process: the simple fact that the most important decision of modern Britain's history has been devolved against tradition of the British democracy will be the measure of the damnation on history books (to use the words of today editorial of The Guardian) that mr. Cameron will be awarded as consequence of his gratuitous and reckless gamble.

No matter what, I will forever love Britain and, as the end of this very personal and hearthfelt take on "Brexit" (which I plea to be taken for what it is, hence with no need for abuse), I want to wish all the well to what is gonna be, in 3 years or so, the United Kingdom of England and Wales, with no more of Scottish oil, an almost inexistent manufactury industry with lesser access to global research and the once world's biggest financial market (if combined of Lloyd's reinsurance business and the at-large LSE's business) turned into what you are gonna get to realize under the Boris Johnson/Nigel Farage' leadership.
And what hurts most is that, once again, the elder low qualified angry people, who have been intrumental to this ruthless political manouvre, aregonna be the one to su suffer most of a dumped economy with lesser wellfare to offer to the more suffering part of the community.

I will probably, for the little that cares, take awhile off the board, on the purpouse to not infect it with the bitter anger that such an historical, totally unexpected, turnout has generated in me.
