I hope he stays fit and fresh because without him were in a tricky spot.

Gundogan is an "intelligent and complete midfielder with numerous strengths"... his "willingness to learn" and "great attitude", have allowed him to play a pivotal role in his later career at Dortmund. He was able to fit into Dortmund's explosive playing style "by combining creativity and outstanding passing with the defensive attributes and tireless energy needed".

give him a chance.

Of course he must be given a chance. I am not discounting him. But we don't have many options to replace fern1 NOW. Gundogan is not at the party yet, but he will be.

Although still rusty Gundogan showed the gulf in class between himself and Fernando on Sunday.

His contract will expire in the summer.

Fernandinho set to sign new contract with Manchester City

Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Raheem Sterling, Sergio Agüero. Those are all very good very great very world-class footballers and Manchester City are in luck to have them in the team, but none of them are Pep Guardiola's favorite player.

That guy is midfielder Fernandinho, who has turned into a beast since the Catalan coach arrived at the club. The Brazilian didn't look like a great player in Manuel Pellegrini's final season, but since Guardiola's arrival, Fernandinho has changed his position on the pitch and become a really fantastic player, the most important in the City system.

Fernandinho looked set to leave the club before the new manager came in, and the Brazilian is in the final year of his contract, and would be able to walk away from free next summer. But that's about to change.

According to the Mirror, the 31-year-old will sign a new contract, with improved wages and three or four extra years of commitment to the club. Guardiola asked for Fernandinho's extension himself, which clearly shows how much Pep values the player.

In fact, in a recent interview, Pep said he wanted THREE Fernandinhos on his team:

“What we have done this season would have been impossible without Fernandinho. If a team has three men like him, they would be the champions.

“We only have one, but he is fast, he is intelligent, he is strong in the air and he can play several positions. When Fernandinho sees the space he will run there immediately. When you need to make a correction, when you just need one to change, he is there.”
We all love Dinho, and it's awesome to know he's staying. Hopefully that extension is signed and announced before January to avoid very silly rumors about him signing for free with another Premier League team. We don't need that.

My teenage son was chatting with his mates (non Blues) about his favourite player. They all presumed it'd be Silva, Aguero etc...
"Na" he said "It's Fernandinho, he's brilliant and the reason why those players are so good."
One proud dad. He really does understand the game!

Newsnow, mate. They had a link towards one called the Hard Tackle where I found this. I also saw it in the Daily Mail.

Got me curious because I was looking on a data site and said that his contract will expire in 2017, so I had a look to see if there are any news and these two were the first.

I couldn't get past the line claiming that he'd suddenly found form this season. Clearly that writer doesn't watch City.

Great stuff. He's a key player, the unsung hero who seems to have gone under the radar outside of the clubs fanbase.

He may be about to turn 33 but he's getting around the pitch with an engine as good as any 23 year old.

He's such a preponderant force on our midfield. Very good work by the club to get this sorted. Hopefully Fred will come in in the summer as an understudy.
