The Fernando sub

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

The Fernando sub

Postby dazby » Sun Jan 24, 2016 1:09 pm

The moments preceding this were our best of the match and we looked awesome. It also left us vulnerable at the back with Yaya as the only def mid.

What did you think of the sub and was it the right call?

Putting Fernando is always the wrong call.

Seriously though, it killed our momentum, we looked like we could go on and win it.

We'll never know, at the time I did think it was the wrong call though.

Wrong call for me. We couldn't believe he was taking off an attacking player when we had just started to go for it. Just didn't get it

Wrong call for me as well. Silva was finding Kelechi with successful passes being threaded through the midfield as he was playing where Silva should have been throughout the match - in between Sergio and midfield.

It completely killed our momentum by bringing Fernando on.

I thought it was the right call. Protect the point. The defense and Yaya were a liability all match. Couldnt afford to lose.

I thought it was a shit call and booed when it was made. We were on top at that point and looked the more likely to score a 3rd. It was as if pellers was accepting the draw. Pissed me right off

It wasn't the wrong call to out him on and have someone sit a little deeper as they were having some joy through the middle
The wrong choice was taking Dave off and leaving yaya on the pitch to spearhead the commencement of our attacks, something that he was failing at throughout the game

Except it was Yaya that started the attack we equalised from. Bringing the ball from the back is what he does best. And that's why he should play there and not further forward. He shows for the ball and links defence with attack.
He just doesn't tackle very well.

He made a fantastic sliding tackle in the first half. It was replayed 4-5 times. How did you miss that?

Wrong call. One team looked like scoring before, the other team did immediately after.

No surprise we brought on another defensive player and suddenly starting defending more.
Tracking back is overrated.

For Christs sake. Was it right? Was it wrong. We got a point away from home from a side that if we were honest gave us a good game on the day. Can we not just get behind our team/ manager/players instead of slagging them off constantly. It would be amazing to win every game but we won't. Nobody is and after the Arse lost today at home we have actually gained a much valued point. CTID

It's not slagging. It's discussing.

The moment it happened I was unhappy with the decision but realised how exposed we were at the back. I accepted it as at the end of the season it may be a valuable point. We've jumped a place because of it.

However, we were looking great at the time. The best we'd looked all match. The substitution released the pressure valve. It let the world know that we were happy with a point.

What is interesting is that every time Pellers has gambled to get a goal this season we've got one. Can anyone think of a time we haven't?

Ha ha. You called me out.
Tbh I'm not a great lover of Yaya. He's been a bit of a pain. But it baffles me to hear people running down one of our greats. If we had anyone better I could maybe understand it.
And now it seems perceived wisdom that he can't play in a two man midfield. . . . Bollocks. Play further forward. . . . Bollocks it's not what he is best at. Impact sub? Utter Bollocks.
