I don't particularly like Messi, and I think he's a horrible little shit. But something like this for us would be a huge huge statement in world football. Never mind how many more years he could perform at his very best at; the financial gain around the world from signing him would be massive!

would I want him, yes I would have him, not only for the team but it would give us more money from our partners, and of course all that media licking our arses to get on board

It's the Spanish equivalent of April fools day in Spain so I take this with a pinch of salt!
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,
silly boy should know for sure,
feed the goat and he will score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Commercially it probably makes a lot of sense. Football wise he's 28, not old by any stretch but he has a lot of football played in his career already, he may burn out in his very early 30s.

I was just thinking about this today, would it be wiser to sign the next best player of the world instead of the current best player? Neymar has his best years ahead of him but for Messi we've probably seen those already.

For footballing reasons I'd be tempted to go for Neymar. But obviously if we actually signed Messi that would be so huge move on so many levels that it is not a surprise why we would want him

Both have a lot of grief in Spain at the moment and Barcelona probably have to sell one for financial reasons.

So he's signed then? Done and done? Good job team!

Yeah, believe it when he's holding a City shirt with Pep's arm around his shoulder, until then it's fucking bullshit journalism at it's finest.

agree and i'm fairly uninterested in this rumour tbf. It would be just like us to sign him and then have him go to shit after a half season of beauty. I won't really lose any sleep over this.

Ronaldo would actually have more longevity and be more of what we needed as well. And that's a goddam fact no matter what anyone else might argue.

cheers

It must be a city thing that I feel it would all go pear shaped if the worlds best player signed for us.

Surely other clubs don't have this feeling like we do

Neymar wouldn't give us what Messi would though. He may give us more on the pitch i terms of long term at top level however the Messi signing is more than about on pitch performance it's also about global appeal as everybody on the planet who knows even the tinyest bit about football knows who Messi is. The same certainly cannot be said for Neymar. So Messi would bring millions back into the club even years after he has retired and/or left the club. Neymar may bring more successful performances overall but that's certainly not what the signing is about. Our owner wants MCFC to be the biggest team on the planet and to do that you gotta have the biggest player on the planet and that is Messi, footballing future aside here. We will then build from the Messi signing.

Part of me would love us to sign Messi, but part of me wonders if it could be a "Rodney Marsh" type signing?

Would the huge investment be better spent elsewhere?

I've read a few here, or maybe it was just you, say they don't like Messi.

Why? The man is an absolutely brilliant footballer...genius, really. Is it the tax evasion reports?

Messi is amazing. His only drawback is that he comes across as a cheating little shit at times. Easy to overlook if he's piling up hardware for your crew I'd reckon.

Cheers
