3-year deal confirmed. Can't wait to see how he gets on.

Will be fascinating. Not sure it's the right thing for him but City and PV must do. Might just be a plus if Jason Wilcox takes on the EDS too

Do you think this could be a sign that we will be looking to looking to blood our best kids en masse at NYC? It'd be great to see them playing against seasoned pros in a competitive professional league. I'm not sure what MLS restrictions are on season-long loans but I'm sure we could send over 3-4 annually.

I am sure there are restrictions on how many "foreigners" are allowed in MLS teams but irrespective I doubt we would look to more than a couple going over. It would probably depend on how they saw the Angelino spell benefitting the player?
The it's a question of who. I would not at all be surprised to see Kean Bryan over there as I think Patrick thinks a lot of him.

The travel, altitude, and extreme climates that come with playing in MLS should be a great experience for him tbh.

I'll try to see some matches next year.

I think the "2nd best string" of our promising youth will probably go to NYCFC. People that we would traditionally shift around on loan at Championship/2nd division teams to see if they can prove themselves. Top level players will most likely continue to get experience at good teams in other European leages (Spain, France, Turkey...) as the MLS can be a bit shit at times.

But exciting role for Vieria, great city to live in, and a nice step forward in his coaching apprenticeship.

Good stuff, sad to see him leave City but it was all a matter of time and he's staying within the City family, so maybe this is a dry run for the next role.

City manager training camp.

The best thing is that MLS plays during the summer. Some of our kids that otherwise wouldn't be playing could gain experience playing alongside full internationals in a physical league.

My Sentiments exactly Slim

Although he will be greatly missed by the academy but at least who ever takes over will not have been chosen at random due PV upping sticks at short notice, this has clearly been orchestrated by CFG before they sacked Kreiss.

It is an athletic league, mostly from how kids are trained here in high school and college. Kids always get yelled at to "Go, go, go!" but never much feedback to think about what they're doing. It ends up looking like hoofball with a bunch of headless Energizer bunnies. Things like how to control the pace of the game, when to attack, when to keep possession, how to keep a team shape, etc...

The linesmen are so bad at most youth levels that only a very small percentage of teams even play with a flat back 4 (instead use old fashioned stopper-sweeper). Some state high school leagues officiate the games with only 2 linesmen and no ref in the center! So defensive tactics and organization are just thrown out the window. All this makes it's way up to the MLS in different amounts.

So definite plusses and minuses for players to come over to develop. But then again maybe Patrick can help to add some intelligence and thought to the MLS instead of headless chicken craziness.

Sad he's leaving Manchester but has Slim has said it's not like he's leaving City completely.

Wish him the best of luck.

Great move for him, I'll be trying to watch some NYCFC games for their new season then. It still fits in with the theory that's he's being groomed for possible MCFC management at some future point too (or at least allows for the possibility of him being in contention at some point), let's hope he hits the ground running.

Honest question, have any MLS managers ever gone on to manage in the PL or La Liga?

It's a step up from EDS, and certainly not a graveyard.

The restriction is 8 foreign players on the roster. Also NYCFC is only allowed 4 youth players from MCFC.

if by "full internationals" you mean Americans, Jamaicans, Canadians, a coupla Mexicans, the odd Costa Rican here or there and some Trinidadians...yeah, then, sure...full internationals.

If you meant proper fucking footballers, such as for example someone like Robbie Keane, then yeah, sure, that too.

Otherwise, No.

cheers

P.S. saying the MLS can be a bit shit at times is the understated post of the year. Deadpanacea. Cheers again.

Carlos Quieroz is the only one, but Walter Zenga is at Sampdoria in Serie A

I am not convinced by paddy v as a manager. He has left me wondering wtf he was thinking at many a youth game.

I will be very interested to see how he gets on at nycfc. I hope he does great but I wouldn't bet on it.

Actually the restrictions depends as far as I understand. NYCFC actually had 10 "international" players this season, but other clubs have more, or less depending on what they do with them. The league distributes 160 out to 20 clubs. They can be "traded" as an asset for another asset (i.e. for a player or money) to another MLS club for a period of time, or permanently.

NYCFC is using all of the 10 slots they possess.

As for PV coming, it's an exciting move, and more reason to catch a match.

Yet, to me, the stadium issue is a deterrent. I'd have liked to have gone this past season but I don't like the idea of paying so much for tickets in a stadium that has the kinds of views that you are forced to get unless you pay a lot of money. What they are going to do about this is also complicated as NYC has a serious real estate problem regarding space, and impact (i.e. overcrowding/gentrification) that is constantly on the mind of its residents, and current government. They need a real place to play, and how that will happen in NYC is a major question mark.
