Manuel's Massive Migraine

Postby gillie » Wed Nov 04, 2015 10:15 am

Of a headache when all the players are fit? I mean after last night how the fuck can he play that system (Which imo is the one he has been searching for) with all the lads fit and raring to go who for instance will miss out and will it mean Silva playing out wide. Not a problem I would like and thankfully not one I have.Discuss.

I personally think he's found his 3rd system and will rotate.

442 isn't gone be wil use it when he wants Aguero and bony on.

4231 with yaya and Fernandinho allowing him to get 3 of sterling, navas, kdb or silva behing Aguero. This is his everyone fully fit system for me.

433 like last night with yaya ahead of the two ferns and the two attackers wide supporting a striker.

Horses for courses.

Agree with PBL, horses for courses. I don't think for example that system would work as well against a side that sits in. Great to see Ferna playing more advanced than Yaya at the beginning last night, he's probably the best we have for pressing the opposition.

The great thing about having 3 options that are used regularly is that it will make opposing managers selections a nightmare, i like the idea of this a lot. We've never had this depth and more importantly none of the teams around us have such depth to the calibre we have now.

Isnt it refreshing to actually have 'Different' systems and also the players to play them.

Every match is different so let's adjust when needed.

It looked to me more like 4-1-4-1 last night, not 433 that's why fern was so far advanecd, fernando mopped everything up and yaya and fern got forward, the wingers had to get back unlike the 433 where sometimes they have licence not to with the midfielder covering.

But yeah agree with what you say generally.

Manuel said in his post match he played a point back midfield which suggests a 433, but when it's fluid like that it's only a paper name anyway. It quite easily goes to 4141, 451, 4231 etc.

The thing is that yesterday's result again shows that Sterling and Navas with Bony up top is lethal. These three guys combined gives us a fantastic shape and keeps the opposition's defence guessing. I don't care if Navas can score for his life anymore or if Sterling gives the ball away every second time, we are lethal with them playing together. Work it out Pellegrini.

"In my career so far it's the most important goal. You score the goal in the last minute to win the title. You're not sure if that's ever going to happen in your career again. I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."

At times it seemed like 4-1-4-1 last night. Particularly first half when we blitzed them.

Edit: just read the rest of the thread. I see others thought so too.

it wasn't really a surprise that that lineup worked. as great as Fern 2 was i think a lot of the success also came from having the pace of Sterling and Navas on the flanks. that was the same threat we began the league with...and then Kevin came. and yes he's been brilliant but playing Kevin, Sterling, and Silva changes up the dynamic.

While it's easy to talk about the luxurious attacking three (or more) the key to last night for me was the two Ferns and Yaya. Everyone else should pivot around those three. Silva or Sterling wide left? navas or Kevin Brown out right? Aguero or Bony up top?

With the Octopus mopping up Fern being superlative box to box and Yaya being the best version of the mountain that he is with his control and ability to keep the ball and find the best pass with ease then we are unbeatable imho.

No other team in the world has 3 players like that to dictate where a match gets played and at whatever pace they want.

Just amazing to watch.

Cheers

It helped that Seville needed to go for a win, leaving space for Jes and Rah to run into. I don't think it would have worked against a team parking the bus.

It's not a bad migrant to have but we'll have more injuries to contend with rest of season so things will change.

Great question, but academic - when have we ever had everyone fit at the same time? And there are more internationals coming up!

And even if everyone is fit, we have enough games to make this question moot. We've seen in recent games the rotation with De Bruyne and Sterling sitting down. And I think Yaya/Fern1 behind Silva is scary as fuck for most teams, not sure Fern2 is required unless it's a tough away game(Not to say he won't get other games). I am wondering if Navas--De Bruyne--Sterling is an option behind the striker, as Navas is unique in this squad giving us genuine width which none of the others do.

Part of the success of that team v Sevilla is the two wide players also get back well to help the defence. It's a major plus with Navas , even if he was a bit sleepy for their goal, but generally they were both very good defensive support for the full backs.

Silva and Brwon maybe not quite as much.
