I don't get the inconsistency.
It's the full names for the likes of David Josué Jiménez Silva and Charles Joseph John Hart, so it should be the same for:
Nicolás Hernán Gonzalo Otamendi
Jesús Navas González
Vincent Jean Mpoy Kompany
Sergio Leonel Agüero Del Castillo

Sorry, but Greg, or in this case,
Gnég, just isn't musical sounding enough, to fit into all the many Yaya songs!... I would also miss Joe "Hartily" screaming Yaya's name, to give him instructions, during every match!

'gneg' sounds like something a deaf person might say...

Well, I suppose that Greg is a lot easier, than trying to pronounce Yaya's other name,
Gnégnéri -- I dare you to pronounce his name, after a couple of beers, or while chewing gum!
https://www.howtopronounce.com/french/g ... n%C3%A9ri/While we're on the slightly off-topic subject of name pronunciation, the Manchester Evening News has kindly offered this guide to pronouncing some other footballer names in Mancunian... Hope this makes you smile!
