MotM v Everton

Postby Beefymcfc » Sun Aug 23, 2015 4:55 pm

Really hard start and coming away as we have, it's not been about luck. A very stern test today, probably the hardest so who stood out?

We've got our captain back - stood firm when we needed - even launched an attack or two. Very few mistakes from him all around.

aside from one set piece where he let Jagielka get away, I thought Kolarov was great
I'm not really a City fan. I'm just here for attention.

Hard to pick out 1 player, but I've gone for Silva.

Total class today, he is nailed on for player of the year in this form

Just seen the graphic with the areas in the pitch he touched the ball. The positions he is taking up are incredible, and leaving it impossible to mark him

This is why Silva has to be nominally named in the centre on the team sheet - because although he will always float around to find space if named out wide (and Pellegrini has confirmed Silva does his own thing in the press this week) he still has it at the back of his mind that the fullback is going to be exposed and I think it affects his game. Free him of that subconscious worry and we reap the benefits.

Silva.

He had the ball more than anyone on the pitch. Beautiful ball for the sterling miss and hit the post himself.

Phenomenal player

As far fetched as it may seem haha.

I've had my concerns about silva in the last year or two, but they are mostly formation related, and we seem to have got the setup right for him at last. I'd argue he's now playing better than in 11/12

Only saw the second half but Kolarov looked solid defensively and his runs from deep created space for our attackers to exploit brilliantly. His opening goal, which was a great finish, to break the deadlock means he edges it over Silva for me, who was also fantastic.

Probably about the same starts but when the ref allows the fuckers to kick him to fuck, sure he's going to go backwards.

Everybody is raving about him, and rightly so, but even if we win the league, again, it'll be someone else who gets the accoldaes, just like Pardew or Harry Kane.

He's just brilliant going forward - we all know he'll never be the best defensively but his crosses and ability to stretch the pitch to create space for our creative players is fantastic.

Navas is having a really good start to the season but my god if he could finish or make the clinical final ball he would be a superstar. All the others named above were excellent today
