I'm surprised this chap hasn't a thread of his own.As of now Ssn reporting the deal has been agreed and he's having a medical.
He's highly rated made the La Liga 14/15 team of the year and this summers Copa America team of the tournament.I think we're signing a boss of a player and can't wait to see him in action for City.
Ps the rags are absolutely gutted they spent half the transfer window thinking they would get him.

so what does this mean for our back 4? or are we changing to a back 3 now? Is Otamendi straight into the starting lineup? I thought Mangala had an excellent game against chelsea, him and vinnie looked dominant. Otamendi is a great talent, but seems almost overly cutthroat and a bit unnecessary to just drop Mangala.
Also don't like what it means for Denayer ... but I believe we want to get him game time. Hopefully it's not just in the cups but in some league games as well.

Denayer's agent practically confirmed that he will be looking for a loan move should Otamendi arrive.

I've got a feeling our ex ponytailed wonder might make way or Denayer will go on loan and if so i'd like I'm to go to Bournemouth.
Otamendi is super hipster so I'm in.

We've rotated the back 4 for the last 2 seasons but last season it was more noticeable due to the goals we gave away. With this signing it gives us real strength in depth which will allow us to rotate with little or no slip in form.
No brainer for me and an area where I would say all Blues were concerned.

Do you reckon he has a big belt that he will bring to the game on Sunday and have in his lap???

He'll start out as our third choice central defender (with Demi utilised as a spare midfielder or emergency defender) - which is some bad news for Denayer really. We didn't need him. Although we are one injury away from needing cover I guess.

Used to play with the Mangaler at Porto, and everyone thought Mangles was better. But Otamendi was looking for a move at the time and was unsetteled. Otamendi was also always considered the thinker of the two, while Mang was the brute athelete... so I've heard
split on this because Otamendi is a great player and has experience playing with Zabba, Demi, and Aguero already - but was also looking forward to Denayer coming through and I don't know where this leaves him. Jason seemed pratically ready for the 1st team, with a very level head. I'm scared if we don't get him serious gametime in the next few years he'll be off (too good to wait around for long)

There's also the thought that he could cover as a CM with his athleticism, and I'm sure he could do a cracking job.

Where did you hear Otamendi was the thinker? He is an old fashioned, brutish type of centre back. Mangala far better as a footballer.

Agreed. For years the dippers then the rags bought when they were on top, primarily because it's easier to sign players and it also keeps the players already at the club on their toes. Complacency, which to my mind, had set in a little bit last year, will be eradicated as the guys know they need to be on top of their game or they don't play. This type of competitive environment is good for players as it keeps things fresh.
It is a long season and we will hopefully play 60+ games and only a fool would think we won't have injuries, suspensions or loss of form and squad rotation. He is a proven centre half who, although is foreign, should slot in seamlessly due to the other compatriots of his we have already at the club.
The fee, as with Sterling, is almost irrelevant as from next year the TV money will mean £30+m deals are commonplace. We have the turnover and I expect the profit to be able to easily sustain these type of deals.
A no brainer for me

Seen suggestions Pellegrini had pretty well given up on the Mangler at the end of last season but has done a u turn after his early season form. Still buying Otamendi all the same. Denayer's agent clearly pissed off and said the Club had indicated before Denayer signed his contract that they weren't planning to buy a top centre back. In the circumstances we owe it to Denayer to get a really good loan berth hopefully in the Premiership.

I really don't understand why he would've given up on him. He was our best centre back for the final third of last season.
Hope Otamendi can settle quickly.

I know it`s youtube, but anyways. Its pretty impressive when he owns Messi, Ronaldo and Bale.
Him, Mangala and Kompany must be the best there is of CB`s in the PL.
Can`t wait.

What did his agent say on the subject?
And what do you think we owe denayer?

We owe Denayer fuck all. He's proved jack shit yet. I'd imagine he's just signed a fairly lucrative five year deal so his agent should probably keep his mouth shut and talk to the club privately rather than via the media.

He gave the impression that the Club had made a promise that they weren't looking to buy a top centre back in order to get him to sign and had now gone back on their promise. I think it's important we get him a decent loan club by which I mean a Club in the Premiership and which clearly wants to play him regularly. This would be good for him and for the Club. We have to consider the wider impact of the signals we send to our EDS boys if a way in to the first team squad appears permanently shut because we buy to fill our needs.

Well, if promises were made, the decent thing would be to abide by them.
The agent has said the following btw:
“He was not in the selection against Chelsea but that was no surprise to us,” said the agent.
“But if City gets a defender, that’s it. They had promised us that no more defenders of that calibre would come. That does worry me.”
City sources say there is no chance Mangala will leave after a solid start to the season, and it is unlikely Martin Demichelis or Vincent Kompany would make way.
“For now, we do not panic,” said de Preter. “Two weeks ago City wanted him absolutely not let go. That would still say they believe in him. But this should not take too long.
“If he is to sit on the bench or in the stands, he leaves. That’s an agreement we have with the club. He has to play, also with a view to the national team. But I repeat, that is not yet on the agenda. Jason also remains calm.”
Sounds pretty reasonable if you ask me.
