I love a left-back thread, played there myself as nobody else wanted to.
I feel like, for our full backs, defensive capabilities are a distant second in the list of priorities because of the way we set up. Unless we add some genuine width on the wings I don't see that changing, and I really don't think the Clichy/Kola combination is bad - their contributions going forward are vital, even for Gael who is often a decoy to move a defence around and make space.. Sure, between them they probably allow some of the ugliest goals that we concede from what looks like poor positional sense, but they are often covering the entire sideline by themselves. For years we have also been allowing match-ups between the opposition's biggest striker and our full backs in the air which also leads to some ugly looking goals.
If we stick as we are I really don't see it being a big problem.

Thought they had headed off without you or something...
I don't think the likes of kolarov is a huge concern if we get the other players we are after. Our possession football will want our full backs forward and his crosses in are savage.
He can excel if we get the team that plays best to the count's tactics.
I wouldn't fancy many of the big three our four teams' left backs tbh. Not so much that I'd be looking for us to make big bids anyway.
Those teams win by knocking the shit out of the opposition.

It seems that the prevailing view at the club is to stick with what we've got for now at full back.
We've got Angelino gaining experience on loan who could potentially be ready for when he returns to the club and maybe play the odd game in 2nd half of the season, which would allow kolarov to leave next summer. Clichy can still do a job for a year or two, but will also need replacing in 2 years time
No idea about the plan for right back, but I get the impression that full back isn't seen as a priority for this summer, and will be addressed next season when the opportunity might arise to fuck sagna off and for someone to play backup to zabba - who by that stage will probably be on the permanent decline.

Lol
From F365;
More from Sky Italia now, and their claim that Manchester City and Juventus are battling it out for Porto defender Alex Sandro. It's been at least a month since Porto made big money on a player.
Alex Sandro is a left-back with six Brazil caps. He's 24 and only has a year left on his Porto deal. Surely they would prefer to cash in now rather than losing him for nothing next summer.
left-back has been a problem position for City, with neither Gael Clichy nor Aleksander Kolarov ever truly looking at home.

Clichy and Aleks have never looked comfy winning 2 titles in 4 years. Greedy cunts.
Cheers

Clichy won't be back until mid to late October. Not having much luck with our full backs.

On the rare occasions i've watched the eds he has always played at right back but at a push I'm sure Sagna could fill in on the left.

Well Kola surely is going to get a serious run of games now as he hoped for.
I seem to recall two seasons ago Zabba seeming to play every single game, but that's really not a good idea.

Probably the overreaction of the year for me but I love Angelino. He will provide us zero cover in the back but boy is he fun to watch going forward. Hope to see him get some cup time after the mls season.

kola seems to have improved, but until we face someone like madrid, barca etc we won't know if he will be back to his mediocre defending again, for now he's doing the job.

I like the idea of Angelino coming through but if Kola gets injured we're royally fucked and I don't think anyone want to see Clichy as our first choice leftback anymore.
Seriously, why haven't you fucked off to RAWK yet?
