Has he played in midfield before?

Jason Denayer agrees to join Marseille, clubs negotiating

According to L’Équipe, Jason Denayer is closing in on a move to Marseille from Manchester City.

The young Belgian defender had initially been part of Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini’s plans this season, but Denayer has decided that the signing of Otamendi was the final straw and will seek and exit door with 10 days of the window remaining.

In the last hours, the player has reached an agreement with OM, the next 48 hours will be crucial, with talks with Manchester City due to occur today.

(A) i'm not sure how credible this source is (B) it doesn't make it clear if this is a loan or a perm deal?

Sky Sports now running with it including quotes from Dernayer's agent.......

http://www.skysports.com/football/news/ ... on-denayer?

Happier that it is a loan, i didn't see much of him but that second half against Stuggart was enough for me to know he's worth keeping.....

Not sure if you read the link to Sky article, but agent does say "several clubs interested"

Marseille are a decent outfit. Assume they are in Europa league so will continue to gain Euro experience. The likelihood of him starting most games for a Premiership club is slim I would suggest, so this would be a good move for him

They also play in a shade of blue very similar to ours!

very good stepping stone from Celtic to us. If he can get regular games it will futher his development way more than staying here (even before Otamendi came). Great move all around and wish him all the best.

Only Iheanacho left this season. Hopefully he will start to get more minutes as the season unfolds. With one or two others every now and then

I think he will, because he is good enough for the first team. The other 2 aren't (maybe a 'yet' in Denayer's case). Hysteria over until next summer.

And when we've over stretched our first team in 4 competitions? Be nice to have him about

Barker and Garcia must be bricking it at the thought they might be promoted to the 1st team. It's our new kiss of death.

That's why we bought Otamendi isn't it - to maintain cover whilst keeping up a CL-strength squad? Not a squad trying out some kids that will lose again. Worse comes to the worse Humphreys did just as well in Australia.

They're in the squad - it doesn't take a brilliant mind to realise there is at least one scenario where they might be called on after some crisis or other - it's in everyone's interest that they have at least SOME experience (in our first team) before their services are needed. I don't see why it's so unreasonable.
