Melbourne City finals game

Postby dazby » Fri May 08, 2015 9:13 am

Melbourne City have mirrored their Manc brethren this season and been distinctly boring. However, we have a finals series here and tonight they are about to play a preliminary final against the arch enemy- Melbourne Victory. City had a surprise win last week over Wellington Phoenix setting up the most anticipated finals game in A-League history. It's the the first derby in finals games and the media have gone for it. The game starts in about 30 mins and for those who give a crap, I'll post updates.

Come on City!!

City have had 2 and a half players that have shone this season. Damien Duff is the half and I write that because his supply was top class until he got injured half way through the season.

One of them is the keeper Velaphi. He only got his start a third of the way during the season and still managed to claim the golden glove for clean sheets. He's young, not that tall, not that imposing. What it seems he does have is great instincts and great organisation skills.

But the real find this season has been Aaron Mooy. He's won a couple of individual awards already as a result of taking his game to another level. The dynamic midfielder has got goals, free kicks and assists. If City are to win, he needs to beat his tag. That or Robert Koren needs to show up for a game and actually earn his corn.

About to start.

Since the goal we've dominated. They get one chance down the other end and jag a second.

Typical City.

City 0-2 down at the break. They've played well but got sucker punched twice. Still in it but we have to get the next goal, goes without saying. We've created plenty of chances but haven't quite had the fortune. Good game.

Third injury after 57 minutes. Horrible horrible luck. Victory should have had a player off for a second yellow too.

Three best attacking players off injured. Robert Koren is the invisible man. Again.

0-3 down after gambling. Injuries to too many crucial players during the game plus some gilt edge misses prove too much.
