Spanish Domestic Football To Be Suspended

From my reading into this La Liga have come to some compromise with Barca and Real but now the rest of the league want a piece of the cake?

The Spanish football federation says it is suspending indefinitely all end-of-season games in disputes with the government, including over TV rights.

A federation statement (in Spanish) said it was also unhappy with receiving only 4.55% of pools revenue, though it said it was still open to dialogue.

All matches will be suspended from 16 May, including the domestic cup final.

In the top division, Barcelona lead La Liga rivals Real Madrid by two points, with only three games left to play.
'Players unhappy'

In the statement, the RFEF federation said it acted after three-month talks with the government had failed to resolve the dispute.

It said more than 600,000 players and 30,000 matches across the country would be affected by the suspension.

However, it also stressed: "At the same time, and yet again, we reiterate the offer of dialogue to the Spanish government."

The RFEF acted after the government last week approved a new law on collective bargaining for TV rights.

The law - which still needs to be approved by parliament - aims to regulate the rights to broadcast matches in Spain's first and second divisions.

The government has so far made no public comment on the federation's statement.

"The initial assumption is that this move has been taken in an attempt to head off a players strike which had been threatened for that weekend," said Andy
West, a Spanish football expert.

"Players are unhappy with some terms of the deal, including the low percentage of revenue on offer to lower league clubs.

"The issue of TV rights is a long-running one with most people recognising that Barca and Real receive far too much at the moment. Realigning it is not easy though," Mr West added.

I am not really surprised by this. For too long these two have benefited whilst smaller clubs struggle to pay their players. Something needs to change.

Seen quite a bit of Spanish football over the weekend, but very little mention of this other than a vague mention of the threat of strike action.

It appears (although it's less than clear), that the Spanish FA and players union have seen their arse about legislation that has now been enacted into law regarding redistribution of TV rights in a marginally more fair manner than was the case previously, and more money is reserved to trickle down through the game, something one would assume an FA and players unions would approve of. However the specific issue is that the law also prioritises commercial creditors in the hierarchy of payment, above footballing creditors (players) - EXACTLY how it should be in my opinion. Apparently the guy who runs the Spanish FA is a cunt, been in charge for the last 26 years and feels nobody but he has the right to make decisions about football, which is believed to be the real reason for the tubthumping.

It's long since been an issue in this country that clubs can go into administration and pay the creditors next to fuck all because the footballing debts have to be paid first, whilst the people who are really dependent on the money, the club staff and the people who work for the creditors, get shafted royally.

It seems the immediate implications if not resolved are that the season can't be completed and therefore there will be no champion or cup winner, and therefore the Spanish FA cannot put forward teams into European competition.

As Barcelona are favourites to qualify as champions of the CL, lets see how long Real Madrid allow this to rumble on if it means they can't qualify for the champions league! But given that this has been enacted into law through parliament, it seems the FA are the ones who will have to back down before this problem goes away.
