Strange equation

But had the last two seasons gone exactly the same except the two carling cup runs been swapped would pellers be under less pressure now?

I honestly think so, which got me thinking just how fickle it all is. Had we won the league last season only it's still his 1st year and he's won the league. Most would be over the blue moon.

This year, a trophy less season has us in a tailspin. Had we won the league cup this year it would be a come down, but nowhere near as bad and many would be saying how a trophy a year is great.

What do you think?

I think some people have been going over the top all season & have lost the ability to deal with disappointment. It's annoying when we have a shit performance but some are going on about it for weeks afterwards & then making out the whole club is in some kind of crisis.

A lot of the stuff on the net is more about punishing the manager & players for failure rather than looking at a logical way of improving. It's more like exacting revenge & creating figures of hate. I would be happy enough to see some of this lot go now, it's gone a bit stale, but they, & Pellegrini, will always be remembered as champions in my mind, just the same as Bell Lee Summerbee etc.

If Pellegrini goes good luck to him. If he stays, good luck to him. If he doesn't win the title next season, & gets fired then, I'll still have plenty of time for him. There are several clubs after these tropies, not just City. Most are getting away with not even challenging, at all, at any point, whilst City are getting shit for at least having a go.

Utd should have been right up there for the past two seasons..They won the fucking thing with a weaker squad. They have been heralded as heroes for getting in the fucking top 4.

These days some City fans seem to feel they have got to find someone to blame for every goal and everything else that doesn't go precisely how we want it to go. It is unnecessarily negative and counter-productive.

Two trophies and two champions league qualifications in two seasons is comfortably better than baconface did in his first two seasons in England.

I wonder about media influence sometimes.

Liverpool have been miles worse than us this season and have dropped off even more dramatically then we have.

I know they lost one of the top 3 players in the world but they had a lot of money to invest and invested very poorly. How some of his signings and have not been given the same awful treatment that Mangala has for instance shows the medias bias towards one of the original sky four.

We as fans need to accept that we can't win something every single season, in the prem you can have at least 4-5 teams in the mix. Look at the Spanish league, one of Madrid or Barca are going to be two years without a title win. Chelsea in England have waited 5 years. That could be us. I just hope we don't turn into Chelsea or Madrid changing the gaffer every year we don't win the league.

Oh the liverpool hypocrisy is appalling. One of the under 18's I coach went in the liverpool assault last week. Ripped him a new one. He especially didn't like me laughing at his top manager quote about Brenda. I simply asked if you had to win a league to qualify for that honour and it went from there.

Brenda will be very lucky to keep that job. Kloop surely must be lined up for that role. Brenda had one great season due to having Suarez in the form of his life and fit Sturridge.

All I ever want for City is to play attractive attacking football and to outclass all other teams in this respect. I want us to be renowned for the outstanding quality, flair and excitement of our play

I want us to score freely and if it means conceding a goodly number of goals to achieve this, then so be it.

If, at the end of the day, we manage to win some trophies then that would be great. If, however, we don't win anything then I can accept that, in the knowledge that we at least tried to win in the 'proper' way and entertained people in doing so.

In don't want us to ever be as cynical and pragmatic as Mourinho's Chelsea in grinding out success and I want us to be the shining example of how football should be played.

all of the above + i want to see all the players lucky enough to cross the white line wearing our shirt give 100% for every single minute of every match. all too often this season (and the one before last) we've not seen this

The main thing for me is that we have a plan to play attacking, high quality, football & we are determined to make that the whole philosophy of the club.

That's what I was begging for & imo it is as near to a foolproof plan as you can get. If they stick with it, then it will work. Whether we win more than Chelsea or whoever our main competitor is; that is anyone's guess, but we will be up there, playing great football, & with a decent percentage of homegrown players, striving to be the best & sometimes getting there.

That'll do me.

Don't be silly.
You know that accolade belongs to the rags.
Or so they've been telling anyone who would listen for all these years.

Where does this idea come from that fans are annoyed about a lack of trophies? All I've ever wanted was effort - this is the second thread (or post) suggesting the same thing and I'll say again - I just expect the team to play like they WANT to win trophies (the actual winning has never been hugely important to me).

There are actually loads of fans moaning about not winning trophies, some even suggesting we should destroy the whole plan the club is putting together (even though we are only just beginning down that road) in order to bring that about, as it may be easier to win stuff without having an instruction to play attacking possession football.

What really pisses me off is the fact, we almost never score from corners. Constantly give stupid free kicks away in dangerous areas and we're shit at defendeding both those free kicks and corners.

Do we ever practice these drills on the training ground? if we scored 10% more and/or conceded 10% less we'd be challenging for the title this season

Laslty, we all hate twats lazily jogging back when they should be busting a gut to do there job

We need a few tevez type players who will hunt down the ball and give this team some energy

I don't ever want too see world class / international class players who wear the City shirt NOT give 100% and not give a fuck , that has happened too many times this season . Agree with with the posters RE City continuing to play attacking football , last season when winning the double was incredible and breathtaking and an absolute joy . Fingers crossed for this summer , big changes looming lets all hope it works out ......... plenty to be positive about :-)

This is a great post and I agree with everything in it. I think the main concern with MP though is not the lack of trophies. His tactics in the big games and Europe have been really niaive at times. I don't want him sacked at all but he needs to learn, and quick. Can he?

I am in this camp as well. Football for the fans, is not a business, it is a form of entertainment. It may well be a business for the owners of a club, and the manager of a club may have to juggle the practicalities of turning a profit with the aspirations of the fans in producing exciting play.

I am a fan, not an owner and as such I want to see the best football my club can provide. I want to see attacking play, verve, panache, skilful interchanges, good passing. I want effort and application from the players. I want to see young lads given a chance to succeed, some will, some won't, but at least it won't be for a lack of opportunity. I want my manager to be above the shite that the likes of bacon, Rodgers and Mourinho consistently spout and show class and decorum one expects to exude from someone in authourity. I expect all levels of teams in my club to have the same ethos, of work and style, so when a position needs to be filled, whether temporarily or long term, the player stepping in is not overawed and doesn't look out of place.

If all of this happens consistently then trophies will come. By design and not default. And they will keep on coming year after year after year. Not every single year, but more times than not, and I won't be too disappointed in the years when there isn't a pot on the sideboard as I will have been entertained along the way. As a fan, I can live with this all day long
