What the piss are you talking about we just lost to Burnley less than a week ago. These are the same players that had you riding on high less then a year ago. Short sighted.

I wish we were flat track bullies at times. It's against lesser teams we struggle to raise our game. Once again I find myself saying a new game at the weekend and let's hope for better effort and application. It's a recurring theme at the moment

True. It's the flat tracks which have mainly cost us this season. Few at the start of the season would genuinely think we were knocking Barca out of the Champions League, but 6 points off Burnley was a given.

Given we've pissed away points to Stoke, West Ham, Burnley x2, Hull and QPR this season Id say we aren't flat track bullies at all.
We haven't bullied anyone to be honest, as we aren't up to flat track bully level these days.

why??
not basing it on the (supposed) quality of the teams we face, basing it on the effort they (the opposition) put in
at the momement, any team that tries hard against us succeeds - as proved by the team assembled for loose change last saturday

So you think that we have only won games this year because the teams we beat didn't put in much effort?
A flat track bully dominates inferior opponents, but can't stand up to top level opponents.
Effort doesn't come into it, the term you use is about quality.

I think the point is if you get after us close us down hit the ball long you have a chance, some teams have rolled over, the teams like Spurs at home played us of the park at times we won with a flattering score. They should have had 6

Trouble is, you might have all the skill in the world but, if you're not prepared to work hard and do the ugly things as well, at the end of the day such skill on its own might not count for quite as much.

I'll second that but mind how you go speaking logic on this forum as you may upset the fantasists Mr Beef.
If we had De Gea and the rags had Hart, we'd be top with a 9 point lead and they'd be in 12th place - that's the difference between a 'good' keeper and a 'top class' keeper - 12 places - think about it.

Flat-track bully
a batsman high in the batting order who is very good only when the pitch is not giving the bowlers much help. 'Track' is Australian slang for the pitch. When the 'track' is said to be 'flat' it is at its easiest for the batsman, but these are the only conditions under which some players can dominate. When conditions are tough, or when it really counts – they don't.
sound familiar???

No.
As just about everybody has explained. City have often been the opposite & fuck up the easy stuff.
Burnley for example, were not actually very good. It was easy. We were shit.

we were shit and burnley worked their bollocks off. what the lacked in skill, they made up for with effort.
our boys don't like it when teams are in their faces
newcastle made it easy for us the other week because they stood off us... when their second string beat us in the league cup they worked their bollocks off and guess what? they won.

You still trying to argue your point NT? In football the term "flat track bully" refers to a player or a team that beats inferior opponents but cannot beat top level opponents.
In cricket it may mean something different but this is not cricket.
