Wilfred Bony - possible January Signing

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

It is very harsh to have a problem with his touch.

His movement is the problem, he is very slow, but the touch is fantastic. Remember his ball control with WBA, that was a moment where we saw it very clearly. He is a very good squad player, more of a false nine, if you ask me.

There isn't too much wrong with Bony's movement either. You don't bag 34 goals at your previous club if you lack total movement.

I agree. You don't lose Williams with ease and bang a header in the bottom corner if you lack movement.
Your right leg I like; I've got nothing against your right leg. The trouble is neither have you.

It's lack of pace, not movement or touch that hurts him most with us.

I also think it's been confidence.

He's muffed quite a few chances that seem correlated to this as well as I think times he's seemed a bit eager to pass rather than look to score.

Agree re confidence.

I've always thought he seems to be too passive and almost a shy player. The sort that needs lots of encouragement and for things to go well for him to play his best

He still hasn't had that many starts since he joined and he has bagged a few goals. How many games has he started and in how many of those games has he scored?

This will quickly become a Dzeko level division I fear.

People forget how well Dzeko actually did for us because they remember a shit run or the lackluster effort he put in towards the end, they forget he bagged 72 goals in 180 odd games, again with a lot of subs appearances.

Bony will be fine, he's an excellent backup for Aguero and his goals to minutes ratio is about what we'd expect from him. Missing a chance or two a game doesn't bother me in the long run(although at the time I may be annoyed) as long as he doesn't go hiding. I think people forget that Aguero has missed an awful lot of chances, usually followed by taking a chance that's a lot harder than the ones he missed. Was it Everton when he had 6 shots before bagging one? That was a day, but he was given 6 opportunities, with the way our midfield are playing at the moment Bony is getting nowhere near that many chances, so the misses seem a bigger deal than they should.

Also, he may fuck up but he never let's his head drop and keeps trying and I'll take that every day over someone like JoJo who spent a lot of his time moaning about the pass he didn't get rather than working some space for the team.

This season he's started 13 and scored in 5 of them ( 6 goals total when starting )

He's came on as a sub 6 times and scored just the once from them sub appearances.

Thanks.

There you go. 5 goals in 13 starts. Not a lot wrong with that.

Thought I'd throw this into the mix since we're on the subject of how many times a player has been on the scoresheet when starting.

Aguero has started 12 games this season and scored in 5 of them.

I think the basis of the debate about Bony is the fact he and his style doesn't suit our style of play as a team , we are hopelessly static upfront highlighted last Saturday v Swansea . No one is arguing about his goal scoring percentage just the fact the cunt can't run which fucks up our play .
Not really here

Lots of rumours that he's going back to Swansea this window.

Unless someone like David Villa is coming here on loan I can't see us letting anyone go - I say David Villa as I can think of anyone else possibly available on loan that's half decent.

I wouldn't play either Sterling or KDB upfront. Neither of them are strikers. If we're letting a proper striker go we need to replace them with a proper striker.

Can't see a loan move to be honest and what would we sell him for? £15m? Can't see us taking that much of a hit in just 12 months. We didn't offload Fernando or Mangala after their first seasons in which they didn't set the world on fire. Or Jovetic for that matter.

Unless we have a proper replacement which is highly unlikely given (A) our managerial position and (B) very few quality players come up for sake in January, then Bony will still be a City player on February 1st.

A really cheeky loan bid for Tevez? Assume the Argentina season has ended. Be worth chucking £3m for a loan till the end of the season

I doubt this rumour very much.

There are other sides that would rather have him and are better.

Swansea wouldn't want to match Bony's wages. That's the main difficulty with any players that don't work out including Jovetic and Mangala. Swansea must be after him though because it was the Sun that broke this story.
