Quite a few from this site frequent the Townley. It's only a stones throw away from the stadium.https://www.google.nl/maps/place/Townley+Hotel,+Albert+St,+Manchester+M11+3QW,+UK/@53.4810543,-2.2033082,17z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x487bb10cc692092d:0xe8f33cdabfb051a4

Mary D's is the most famous one, but it's not really to my taste. Really crowded and lots of sing-a-longs, but quite shabby and rowdy.

The Corner Shop seems to be quite popular as well, but I've never been myself.
https://www.google.nl/maps/place/The+Corner+Shop,+Rylance+St,+Manchester+M11+3NA,+UK/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x487bb10b4e769a0b:0xe762844971b73ad9?sa=X&ei=l4JsVPKHPImUapGOgvAB&ved=0CHwQ8gEwCg

A lot of people also drink in town and then go straight to the stadium.

Get yourself into City square to the Summerbee bar or star bar for some pre-match entertainment.

Yeah it all depends on your plans really. Are you getting blotto and staying in Manchester, or just popping in?

As WW says we tend to just have a quickie on the way up at Bucklow Hill then on to the City Square.

For City Square you need to be there early, and not be too fussed at the standard of beer either.

The Townley is probably a decent shout though Ive never been in there myself, or alternatively aside from Mary D's pick some of the many great pubs in Mcr city centre and then get a cab to the stadium around 2.15. Enjoy - they'll be loads of space as we never sell out and its always empty at our home games, I read about it on twitter :)

Also no early prem games on Saturday, the early championship kick off is Huddersfield v Sheff Weds so you wont get the extra stampede in the pub that tends to happen when there is an interesting early kickoff prem fixture.

It all depends on your situation, I personally agree that staying in town until 2.15 is a good idea, however, it all depends on your travel arrangements.

City center pubs and bars before and after the match ! Great atmosphere if you know where to go , jump in a black cab half an hour before kick off and you will be in the ground 5 minutes before kick off !

I would say for atmosphere Mary D's from about 2pm, lots of songs/chants etc, good fun and a good laugh.

Which pubs in the City centre are the best for atmosphere pre-kick off do you think?

Cheers lads got a few options to choose from there . My train back to hull is at 9 so a few beers after the match and celebrating 3 points will be the evening plans

After the game it's better to head off into town and have a few scoops.

I suggest you the Townley, I always go there before my City games at Etihad! Impressive atmosphere there, even if it wasn't so easy to find it the first time I wento to Manchester!
From Torino, Italia to Manchester, Lancashire this City is always our City!

I might suggest you get an earlier train to Leeds to connect with the last train to Hull which leaves Leeds at 2221. If you get the train from Piccadilly at 2111 there is little margin for error. The 2043 from Picc may save you from getting stuck in Leeds overnight.
