Manchester City to return for Pep Guardiola next summer if owners dump Manuel Pellegrini
Manchester City will try for Pep Guardiola again if they feel Manuel Pellegrini cannot deliver the success they crave.
City’s deal makers Txiki Begiristain and Ferran Soriano know the Bayern Munich boss well from their time together at Barcelona.
And they believe Guardiola could be the man to deliver the Champions League glory owner Sheikh Mansour wants.
Guardiola has won the Champions League in 2009 and 2011 with Barca as well as domestic titles in Spain and Germany.
City will give Pellegrini time to turn the Blues around. But they will not wait forever and will try a second time to tempt Guardiola to the Etihad if they feel the Chilean’s time has run its course. A City insider said: “Txiki and Ferran have a real relationship with Pep.
“There is a belief one day Pep will arrive at City.
“Given he’s under contract at Bayern people wonder if he is attainable. But let’s see what might happen next summer.”

Manchester City prepare to cut losses on troubled Yaya Touré
ARE Manchester City looking to offload their stella midfielder Yaya Touré? It was only last year Touré was telling everyone that “nothing would give me greater pleasure than to finish my career as a Manchester City player.”
Given his flirting with Barcelona and PSG, do Manchester City fans still believe that?
The Times says City are looking to sell the man:
As they wrestle with a worsening crisis in the wake of their woeful 2-1 defeat by CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Wednesday, it has emerged that City would be open to parting company with Touré if a suitable offer is forthcoming.
Isn’t that a line that could be applied to every player?
Arsenal would be open to parting company with Sanchez if a suitable offer is forthcoming.
Manchester United would be open to parting company with Rooney if a suitable offer is forthcoming.
Chelsea would be open to parting company with Hazard if a suitable offer is forthcoming.
Every player has his price.
Touré, who turns 32 in May, will enter the final two years of his £210,000-a-week contract next summer and is likely to be in demand, despite his troubling form this season.
He’ll be in demand because he reamins a force. But what team will want him for that money? Well, Manchester United, obviously. They’re desperate enough to up his wages.
But what next for City?
City are monitoring Paul Pogba and Ross Barkley, the highly regarded Juventus and Everton midfielders respectively, as potential targets and Marco Reus is also under consideration.
The Times has no facta to sugegst any of thoae names will join Ciuty. But, you know the routine:
Juventus would be open to parting company with Pogba if a suitable offer is forthcoming; Everton would be open to parting company with Barkley if a suitable offer is forthcoming; and so on and on…

CSKA Moscow defender Pontus Wernbloom says Manchester City are vulnerable in defence and it is "obvious" how opponents can beat them. (The Independent) Meanwhile, the Home Office has hit back at claims by CSKA that a Manchester airport official tried to sabotage the Russian club's chances of victory over City by denying Serbian striker Zoran Tosic entry to the UK. (The Times)

UEFA says yellow card issued correctly in Champions League match
NYON, Switzerland UEFA says Greek referee Tasos Sidiropoulos did not show a yellow card to the wrong CSKA Moscow player in Wednesday's Champions League game against Manchester City.
Reports of CSKA's 2-1 win suggested Sidiropoulos should have sent off Pontus Wernbloom by showing the Sweden defender a second yellow card for his 77th-minute foul on City forward Sergio Aguero.
Instead, Sergei Ignashevich was booked in what was widely reported – including by Machester City's official website – as a case of mistaken identity.
UEFA says Sidiropoulos explained in his written match report that Ignashevich was given a yellow card for dissent, and he did not think Wernbloom's foul merited a second yellow.

Manchester City must battle harder to succeed in the Champions League, says legend Denis Law
"I don’t care who you are playing in Europe, the team at the top or bottom, if you don’t battle you will get turned over," says the former striker
Denis Law says Manchester City must battle harder in Europe if they are to do better in the Champions League.
City are facing another early exit from the competition as they are bottom of Group E after a 2-1 home defeat by CSKA Moscow .
Former City star Law, 74, said: “It was disappointing for City, they didn’t play very well.
“I don’t care who you are playing in Europe, the team at the top or bottom, if you don’t battle you will get turned over.
“Mainly your games are 1-0 or 3-2 or 2-1, it is always a tight finish. You need to battle.
“They need that, the players will know that and they have not done as good as they should do.”
Law was speaking at The Hawthorns at the unveiling of a statue to ex-West Brom ace Tony ‘Bomber’ Brown, who used to idolise the Scot.

And another ex City Dennis comes out ...

Tueart questions Pellegrini´s Champions League credentials
Manchester City great Dennis Tueart has questioned manager Manuel Pellegrini's tactical nous and his UEFA Champions League credentials.
A 2-1 home defeat against CSKA Moscow on Wednesday – when City finished the game with nine men following the second-half dismissals of Yaya Toure and Fernando – leaves Pellegrini's men bottom of Group E with games against Bayern Munich and Roma to come.
That means City – yet to win in this season's competition – look likely to require two victories in the remaining two group games to have any chance of reaching the last 16 and even that might not be enough.
Pellegrini is in the spotlight as City have lost three of their last four games in all competitions and Tueart - who scored the club's winning goal in the 1976 League Cup final – thinks the Chilean's team selections have backfired.
"Well I think it's an all-in responsibility," Tueart told Perform.
"The manager picks the team, he has to assess the opposition, decide what their strengths and weaknesses are and select his team accordingly, and unfortunately in the last couple of years, at the Champions League level with the manager, he's fallen short in both elements.
"What's come through after the last few games - Newcastle, West Ham and CSKA - is two things. First of all, team selection has to be analysed -- whether the team selection we're making is suiting the quality players that are in the team -- and secondly, without question, the value of David Silva, I mean that has been possibly not valued as great, but without him we are a different side.
"Yaya [Toure]'s performances have been a little disjointed, but I always go back to the [Roberto] Mancini reign when Yaya was at his marauding best, when we played a team selection of two holding midfield players with Nigel de Jong and Gareth Barry allowing Yaya to use his element of attacking force, and his power, and his ability to get forward, without any real defensive responsibilities, with having those two holding midfield players.
"And we very rarely had that team selection again since and it mystifies me why that's not happening.
"I think you have certain levels of qualities when you're a Premier League club. You have the domestic trophies, you have the Premier League competition and you also have the Champions League.
"In each stage, there's a grade above the previous stage, and I think we've acquitted ourselves very well in the Premier League, but in the Champions League we haven't been able to sort of get our strategy right, our team selection right, our attitude right.
"All the things you need when you're playing in the next stage of quality level."
He added: "When the owners look at the amount of money they've invested in the squad, individual salaries, and individual price-tags, they're quite entitled to expect a better performance and I would sort of understand where they're coming from and say 'we need to address this very quickly'."

Opposition view: Queens Park Rangers
QPR fans give us the lowdown on tomorrow's opponents
Ahead of Saturday's clash at Loftus Road, Bluemoon caught up with members of the WeAreTheRangersBoys.com forum to get the lowdown on the opposition...
What are your expectations for this season?
Geng: I think we'll stay up as there are a few shocking sides in the league this year.
oldhoop: We will escape relegation - just.
Are you happy with the manager?
G: No. The guy is a complete joke. Lazy, outdated, been at a higher level, here for a last payday, doesn't truly care what happens to the club beyond the end of his contract; he's the managerial equivalent of all the has-been players we've signed and regretted in the past few years (Bosingwa, Park, Rio etc) and that attitude filtered down to the players.
It seems after we lost pathetically to West Ham a few weeks back the media finally cottoned on to the fact he is a total dinosaur who can't really compete with modern managers and doesn't seem to know or care how to fix things. He got the kicking he deserved (from our fans and some of the media).
Since then - and this only took two years and £6m in wages - he has started looking interested, and our performances have improved. These past few weeks we've actually looked like we have a tactical plan, for the first time since we joined the club (ignore the promotion, we were poor all year and got through thanks to having a relative budget equivalent to City + Chelsea combined in the PL).
I would still sack him tomorrow if I could. He wants to sign Defoe and Crouch in January, says it all. The man is a cancer on our club.
oh: Sort of. What's the alternative? The only one that we would all (or nearly all) be happy with is Pulis, which in itself tells a tale as I never thought I would want him near my team! There are rumours about Harry's mental wellbeing and he is surrounding himself with an army of coaches (we've just got another one from Spuds!) which suggests uncertainty and a lack of direction and assertiveness. Why do we need all these people giving different ideas? This can only lead to confusion as to what is expected of each individual and the team as a whole.
Who are your key players?
G: Since we've reverted to a fairly basic 442 recently it's been Zamora. He stole a living from us for two years then popped up to score the play off winner and made himself a cult hero. This season he seems halfway bothered about playing for us, and he's vital to our 'knock it to the big man and see what happens' game.
oh: Zamora and Charlie. When one, either, or, god forbid, both get injured we have nothing at all up front!
Were you happy with the business conducted during the transfer window?
G: Selling our only specialist right back was stupid, and maybe Rio was a bad idea. Not having a Remy replacement lined up was also daft, especially if we have to have never-fit Zamora as one of just three strikers. But generally pleased. We actually signed a bunch of players who would be decent long-term investments. First time that has happened in years.
oh: Yes. Fer, Caulker, Vargas and Sandro were all great bits of business. Ferdinand was a sentimental and very expensive extravagance.
Are there any rising stars in the squad that we might not have heard of?
G: Yun Suk-Young, Korean left-back. Harry inexplicably refused to play him for the past 18 months. Finally gave him a proper chance a few weeks ago and it turns out he's excellent.
oh: Yuk Sun Young full back who is already quietly catching the eye of the media.
Your Achilles heel?
G: The culture of the club. We're a place players go to get paid well, live in London and not work too hard at our joke of a training ground. That starts from the Chairman, runs through the manager, and filters through to the players.
oh: Not enough cover up front. We still need 2 more forwards and very soon we will be running on empty.
If you could have any City player in your team who would you choose?
G: David Silva. God I would love to watch a player like that every week. To win a random PL game tomorrow: Aguero or Toure, as Silva would be completely wasted on our static players and dinosaur manager ("run abaht a bit David").
oh: Silly question - Ageuro. The man is class.
What is your perception of City as a club?
G: It's weird how you've retained some residual likeability, despite being everything that's wrong with modern football. I suspect this is down to you being such a trainwreck for so long, people still hating United, and because everything single thing about Chelsea is just so objectively horrible. You're fun to watch and I'm not bored of you being good yet, partly because you keep messing up premier leagues you should be waltzing and partly because you're still crepe in Europe. Good luck to you.
oh: Actually like them, as your supporters are not arrogant t**ts like your neighbours and ours.
Likely starting XI for the game, and score prediction?
G: Green; YSY, Caulker, Dunne, Isla; Fer, Sandro, Henry, Vargas; Zamora, Austin. This is a great time for us to play you guys. 1-1.
oh: Green YSY Caulker Dunn Isla Sandro Vargas Fer Henry Zamora Austin, and I actually belive we will win 2-1.

Gregory: Crawley Town are 180 minutes away from Manchester City
JOHN GREGORY is urging fans to embrace the magic of the FA Cup, believing an exciting tie against a Premier League giant is "within our grasp".
It was four seasons ago that Crawley Town went on their famous FA Cup run that ended in a narrow loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford, and Gregory doesn't see why they cannot enjoy a bit of that magic in this year's competition.
"This week I posted a picture on my Twitter account of Crawley Town walking out at Old Trafford," Gregory said. "That's the magic of the FA Cup. That's what can happen and it's within our grasp. If things in life are beyond your grasp, you can dream about them but you won't have a chance of obtaining them.
"But this is within our reach. You might get through 180 minutes of FA Cup football and then you could be facing one of the top teams in Europe in the English FA Cup. You could get drawn against a Champions League team.
"Liverpool, or Chelsea or Manchester City – it's 180 minutes of football away.
"Never in Crawley Town's wildest dreams did they expect to play Manchester United in 2011, even when they were in the hat. But we got them and that's the magic of it."
The Reds start their FA Cup journey at Yeovil Town on Saturday, and Gregory has promised to go with a more offensive look against Gary Johnson's League One strugglers.
"It's a big, big game for us on Saturday and it can do wonders for you, the FA Cup, it really can," Gregory said. "So I'm fired up and looking forward to the weekend, especially on the back of our second half performance on Saturday.
"I'm getting my team ready for the weekend and it will have a much more offensive look to it. It's the FA Cup; let's get excited."

Wow, that Barcelona fan really gave Pique a verbal lashing of horrendous proportions, when he told him to "wake up and run more".

That really was a fanatical piece of his mind and I bet Pique couldn't sleep at night after that damning oral indictment. It makes English fans seem like out-and-out gentlemen by comparison.

These Barcelona supporters are nothing, if not formidable.........
