both went for £16m and are a similar age
forgetting past allegiances, who would you rather have in your side?

Between the two, Welbeck. Does pose more of a threat and will always track back and put a shift in for the team.

That said, there are a lot of strikers I would have before Welbeck

Can I vote to play an extra midfielder? Or put David James up front?

Welbeck's always been a decent player. His overall game is very good, other than his finishing. I've always thought that'd come though with regular games and i'd take him in a heartbeat out of the two... Mario on the other hand is incredibly overrated and has never really done anything to justify it in anything approaching a consistent manner. Wouldn't want him anywhere near City again.

Depends who else I have in my squad and where exactly in the pecking order we are.

If I have an already elite squad and am looking for a flair player who can do stuff others simply can't do, to unlock a defence, then it's Mario every time as he has talent to burn - it's simply how do you harness it.

However if I'm a top 6 side only or grafting to get anywhere I go Welbeck as he will be far more consistent, graft his arse off and won't go missing when the chips are down. He's also more versatile and won't be a potential pain in the arse who makes me worry every time the phone rings.

Always see that said about him but rarely ever see it. He's rarely ever wow'd me.

Welbeck, and for me its not even close. Mario has played something like 534 minutes for Liverpool and scored 1 goal. And he's played against some shite teams

Talent to burn? Just a myth.
Little more than ordinary at best.

Welbeck but right now he looks a decent player, let's see if we still feel the same in 6 months.

Also wouldn't take back Mario on a free either. No team is better for having his ego on the dressingroom.

I mentioned on more than one occasion how much I rated Welbeck when he was still at Stretford. Nobody agreed with me and a few people slated me.

I said they were mad to let him go when they sold him to Arsenal. Nobody agreed with me and a few people took the piss.

Even on last night's performance, it was clear that Mario has more talent in his snot than Wellbeck will ever have in his whole body.

It's the application which is the problem.

Some of Mario's touches last night were pure fucking genius, but 99% of them were totally meaningless. Doing something specatacular to control a ball in a tight space then flick it on, is nice to watch but actually Shaun Goater would have just chested it to the same player, a bit quicker.

One finish he scored, where he dug the ball out from under his feet & flicked it under the keeper: genius. He was offside though, as he'd run in too early. Lampard would just arrive later & side foot it in. Mario stopped a team mate from almost certainly setting up the winner, in exactly the same position, by heading a ball from Gerrard which wasn't for him, whilst in an offside position & thus making 4 players offside.

He also spent most of the game in static positions rather than running, & did very little closing down. Almost scored a golazo free kick from 40 yards, hit a shot from there into orbit round Neptune. Dived a lot, got fouled & not proteced a fair bit, due to diving a lot, & got a yellow card for trouble making with an opponent.

All in all, a typical Balotelli performance, way below what Liverpool would get from Wellbeck, & way below what Bellamy (who he replaced) was for City & Tevez will be at 36.

Neither.

I'd rather have someone decent.
