Just because we're on the subject and I for some reason love this little fact, it was Orson Welles who spread the misconception that the Swiss invented the cuckoo clock in his film the Third Man, with the following quote:

"You know what the fellow said—in Italy for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."

Where on earth do you get the idea that the Swiss 'watch Cuckoo clocks' ? They have very little interest in them. Expensive watches, yes.
