Welcome to Manchester gate, quality wind up that created quite a stir in the media and ruffled a few feathers just outside Manchester

OK OK OK I wasn't expecting such a maelstrom of words which either contained or went with the word gate!

I take the point (and the humour) but any chance we can confine further postings to MCFC and 'events' which the press would deem news or gossip.

I'm interested to know more about the club's history from those of you who've followed it over many years?

To understand City, you need to understand 'Typical City'.

Now there is a thread worth creating.

AlanBallGate. A previous manager of God's Own thought towards the end of the last game of the season (95-96?) against Candlepool that a draw would be sufficient for us to avoid relegation and told the players to take the ball into the corner of the pitch and waste time. Needless to say we needed the win and got relegated.

Balloon gate = City lose FA cup tie at Sheffield United when a balloon on the pitch intervenes and diverts the ball to set up the Blades' winner

Pollock gate = Jamie Pollock scores the own goal of the century to speed City towards relegation in front of an awestruck Maine Road

Haha fuck me id forgotten balloon gate.

For the sake of the thread this was where city supporters released loads of white balloons (what was it for again?) during an fa cup tie at Sheffield united and then a ball was crossed and michael ball went to clear a balloon thibking it was a ball, leading to a goal of comical proportions and sending us out the cup.

Good times.

Balo-gate.....take your pick, but mainly the 'bust-up' with Mancini
"If we fire our manager after just one bad season - We'll become Chelsea"
"If we think we can fix the problem by buying expensive players - We'll become City"
"If we remember the good times to entertain us during the bad times - We'll become Liverpool"

So, keep calm and do it the United way

"We invest in young players, That is what we are good at — we’re not like other clubs who can spend fortunes on proven goods. We know that Manchester City are going to pay stupid money, pay silly salaries and all that. We can’t do anything about it. We concentrate on what we can do to try to bring players in for the right reasons. We invest in those who will be with the club for a long time, who will create the character of the club, who will create excitement for our fans. We are very proud of that and we are going to continue that way" - Alex Ferguson 14th May 2012

What about a couple of seasons ago when those supporters were ejected for trying to reason with the stewards who wanted to chuck out the old man who'd stood up because he was having heart problems?

That would be the five barred gate.

Pigeongate was a bit of a favourite of mine.
We were at home to someone, and so shite that a pigeon sat in the opposing penalty area undisturbed for practically the entire second half. Of course we spent all second half composing and singing pigeon songs.
