Cake-gate

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Cake-gate

Postby Sue Perb » Mon Aug 18, 2014 2:10 pm

I was just pondering, given events apropos Yaya and the infamous "cake-gate"(as dubbed by the media).

What other 'incidents' have taken place at City, over the years.

Clearly, Tevez-gate and his standoff with Roberto.

These are two recent events; can fans recall other '???-gate' incidents?

There was Swalesgate but that lasted two decades so I guess it was more of a portcullis. Swalesportcullis, nah, doesn't really roll off the tongue.

Ha ha ha funny, but not quite in the genre of 'cake-gate', I agree! As you rightly record Swalesy and his 'affairs' were more like an epidemic at the club, than an incident! With amputation the only antidote!

Robinho-gate - signing a big name player at the last minute on deadline day to let people know we were here.

Etihad Campus-gate. A massive investment in the future of the club (and of English football) which will open shortly.

Etihad stadium gate - a three phased expansion of the stadium to an eventual capacity that will make it second largest in the premier league due to a season ticket waiting list brought about by our onfield success.

The bans come into force immediately." - 21/12/2015

A clever and positive spin on 'gate events'. Like it, a lot!

Yep, in hindsight that was an absolute blessing in disguise. His career took a complete nose dive and we saved ourselves £100 million.

In a sense the defeat in the FA cup final was a "-gate". Clearly there was a storm going on behind the scenes and we gave a shocking performance.

Coppellgate anyone?
Never criticise a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.
And you'll have his shoes.

Messygate - In the hectic hours after takeover before transferwindow closed there were phonecalls back and forth between UAE and Manchester.

At one point the guy on the UAE side said: "This is all getting messy"
The guy on the manchester end misunderstood and replied "What?! Get Messi?!" after which we put in a 30m bid on Messi.

Best football story ever IMO.

I thought Watergate might have been when Fiona Fullerton was in the team bath with Big Mal.

It was Fiona Richmond, if memory serves me right. The big feller walked with a limp for a fortnight after that, so you could call that the gait-gate.

I'll get me coat.

I stand corrected and bow to your superior memory.

All these nubile young ladies of yesteryear look the same to me.

Mind you, Big Mal operated in style and got the cameras there to document it all.
