That sounds like utter bull crap but we'll see. A casino? Really? I'd be mega surprised if our owners thought a casino would do anything other than flop big time in an area like that. They don't strike me as the kinda business people who make crass decisions like that. The casino hotel thing was mooted about ten years ago under the old shit era. It just doesn't fit with the image they're trying to build. Putting a casino next to the academy? Nahh

I call bollocks on the casino idea that area isnt famed for its bright light casino attitude.

We're more likely to see a hotel, club museum, football visitor attraction, fan park and arena than anything else.

IF TRUE

Got to be honest, I have heard the hotel casino thing too. As I will be visiting neither though it didn't really interest me.

How do you come to that conclusion ? A few years back it was mooted that a Casino might be coming.

Our owners are probably the perfect kind of people to own and manage such a project

Tony Blair thought it was a good idea i think that is all we need to say.

A casino there would flop hugely unless it was included in an 'entertainment village' there just isnt the crowd for it.

Well if it does get built, it will be included in an 'entertainment village' as they've been saying since day one that there is a major tourist attraction being built on the collar site around the ground.

But I'm not sure a casino is the kind of thing our owner wants to be seen building. I can believe the Asda story though as that rumour has been around for a while & it makes sense.

But anyone who thinks a casino wouldn't work!! Think about it!!!

it would most likely work if they put it in said 'entertainment village' but just sticking a hotel and casino on the site and saying watch them flock, they wouldn't simple as that.

Casino Idea was ditched years ago

Also this type of business does not fit with the Sheiks profile.

Not the locals, no but I imagine that the Etihad Palace Hotel casino with it's many tourist visitors from places like, let's just say Abu Dhabi for example, would do pretty ok.

And if QPR are still in the Prem...

When City are playing yes,but i cant see the top bollocks cruising around Miles Platting, Beswick and down Bradford road in their lambos on a cold December night.

It would be a ghost town, there would have to be some very serious entertainment going on most nights for it to work.
Most Casinos in the city are empty during the week so only could only guess the visitor footfall over the road.

I imagine a few of the Crown Prince's mates on a Saturday night out with Summerbee, will cover the shortfall. The 'tourist attraction' is expected to be open 365 days per year, whatever it is. But I have major doubts a casino is part of that plan, unless it's just purely in the hotel.

I don't think they would want to be seen building a casino, it doesn't fit with the image.

Wasn't this slap bang where Prescott's original casino was supposed to be? Part of the COMS complex?

Wouldn't discount it, our owners are quite spot on with market research, they didn't even start expanding the ground until it was blindingly obvious.

The original 'supercasino' was to be built right next to the ground; the area which was cleared & prepared a while ago. The stuff City (& any partners) will be building will be over a much much bigger area. That area could now take a very large/tall building if required apparently. There are rumours about the Mercedes garage being moved, & also the athletics stadium. Dunno how true.

Just to add; Gary Cook's piece quoted again in the Yaya thread mentioned the land around the ground as being a selling point when Sheikhy bought the club.

Isn't the row of (mostly closed) shops on Great Ancoats Street part of the housing development we've gone into partnership with the council?

Relocating ASDA there isn't such an outlandish suggestion

I heard that Easltands Asda wasn't very profitable and that they were open to ideas of a relocation so there could be some truth in this story.
