The New Cityzen Membership - Rip off or not?

The OS has put details of the new membership scheme online, I have to say its a lot of money to get you into a queue for tickets at £35 for an adult and £25 for kids.

http://www.mcfc.co.uk/News/Club-news/20 ... ens-launch

Today we have launched an exciting new membership scheme aimed at City’s legions of fans at home and around the world, with the goal of bringing its members closer than ever before to the Club they love.

Cityzens, the name of the new members’ community, has been designed from the ground up with inputs and ideas collected from City fans of all ages in Manchester, the wider UK and abroad.

Packed with a multitude of benefits and money can’t buy experiences, Cityzens is designed to enable fans to participate more actively in the club’s decisions, experience the club more deeply, and deliver more value-for-money rewards.

Not only will new members signing up receive a welcome gift pack to celebrate their membership with exclusive Cityzens products, tailored to their age group, ranging from a scarf, mini-football and wrist band, but they will also be able to personalise their Cityzens card.

In a Premier League first, City fans now have the ability truly to express their passion for the Club by personalising their Cityzens card which also serves as their Seasoncard. So whether it’s cherished images of their first born, spouse, favourite player or family pet, they will always have a place close to their heart while supporting their favourite team.

Cityzens can also look forward to voting on key Club decisions, such as influencing how City allocate funds to charity projects around the world, or naming the streets at the new City Football Academy, which opens soon.

In addition, Cityzens will have access to priority purchase windows for tickets to matches including derbies and Cup finals, as well as post and pre-season tour games around the world, ensuring they are first in line for the big matches, before they sell out.

Members will also receive exclusive content such as first-to-know messages on important club news, plus free access to the City Editions app which contains digital match-day programmes.

Further benefits include in-store and online retail discounts on Club merchandise, in addition to concessions on Etihad Stadium Tours.

Most notable is the introduction of City Points to reward members for Club engagement. The more fans participate by attending matches, engaging on social media or purchasing City products online – the more City Points they will earn.

These City Points can then be used to access unique members-only money-can’t-buy experiences such as having lunch with the squad at Carrington, asking a question at a post-match press conference, boarding the team plane for an away match or challenging the players on EA’s FIFA15.

Supporters will continue to earn Ticket Points (previously known as Loyalty Points). These help them access tickets in the same way as they always have.

International fans from all corners of the world will also have the chance to win dream trips to Manchester to watch Manuel Pellegrini’s men in action at the Etihad Stadium, while young members will be able to access games, competitions and content through the Junior Cityzens online portal, where they can participate in unique experiences like escorting a player on match-days.

Commenting on the launch of Cityzens, Diego Gigliani, Director of Marketing, Media and Fan Development for Manchester City, said:

“As the Club continues to grow around the world, we wanted a single membership programme that brings all our fans together wherever they live in the world.

“Cityzens not only rewards fans with unforgettable experiences for their incredible support and participation, but also empowers them to influence key Club decisions, giving them a real voice and real value.”

Cityzens is priced £35 per year for adults and £25 for under 16s.

Also, the new City points system is very weird, you get extra points for just hashtagging on social media? I think that is a flawed idea right there

http://beacityzen.mcfc.co.uk/the-points.html

It says you get 300 points for a season ticket, I didnt get that for renewing mine?

Seems you get extra points for actually attending a match as well as buying a ticket?
It says season cards get 300 loyalty points but its 20 points per match? IN my eyes that should be 380 loyalty points! I got 190 for renewing.

Seeing those prices and that hashtag for adding "points" idea, Im sorry but the club needs a rethink.

For a family of four, they have to pay £120 up front, for the right to join a queue to pay £50 odd quid for match tickets themselves? Absolute joke.

We cant begin taking our fans for granted but that scheme reads like a financial pisstake.

2012/13 you had to pay extra for the match ticket priority, I think it was 10-15 + on the 20 Pounds Blue Membership.
2013/13 this was all included into the 20 Pounds.
This year 35 Pounds for something I can´t see the Plus for myself? At this time It is not planable that I will come over for more than let´s say 2-4 homegames and that is 10-15 Pound each game extra on the ticket price.
I attend 5-8 games a year but can´t say if home or away......

I have to think about this.....

I rad that as there being two sorts of points:

City points that get you on the team bus etc., but have nothing to go Roth priority for tickets, maybe a bit like that auction thing they did last year.

Ticket points that are equivalent to loyalty points last year.

I would then expect to get Ticket points for renewing my season ticket, but possibly not City points (which I won't bother with anyway).

Or am I reading it wrong?

Just got the email about it and you are right, Loyalty points are now called Ticket points and Citypoints are just some bullshit way of spamming social media and getting access to other stuff

It doesn't appeal. At all. In fact, it's a bit off-putting.

I get to enjoy a world-class football club twice a week all season long from half the world away, for practically nothing in return.

For me, the Blue membership (and now Cityzens...terrible name BTW) is a small way to give back and help in some minuscule way to offset FFP. Was happy to re-up earlier today.

As you are seldom in Manchester - I doubt that it matters too much ;-)

If only Swales was around today, he'd have loved this.

Personally I think it's aimed at the upcoming market, creating interest in the new breed of City fan. £35 is not a lot of money for some and it's the more local supporter who has been around for years who is going to look down on it. As we know, the majority of matchday attending City fans are from the local area and in that local area the average wage means that a large proportion of their money is spent on going to the games. With the rising ST prices some have chosen to go the Blue/Cityzen way of thinking and cutting their matchday attendance as circumstances change. Now, from being a free membership to paying for something that realistically gives them nothing more than a chance to stand in the queue for tickets, becomes somewhat of an affront to them.

I won't be buying one but then again, I don't have to. The question for me is, when I return to the UK next year, whether to renew my ST?

Bayern are one of the best teams on the planet and I lover their take on it

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness today accused Premier League clubs of 'milking their fans like cows' in charging high prices for season tickets.

Explaining his decision to keep season tickets at Bayern lower than their counterparts across Europe, Hoeness said: "We could charge more than €130 (£104). Let's say we charged €380 (£300). We'd get €2.5m (£2m) more in income, but what's €2.5m to us?"

"In a transfer discussion you argue about the sum for five minutes. But the difference between €130 and €380 is huge for the fans."

"We do not think fans are like cows, who you milk. Football has got to be for everybody."

"That's the biggest difference between us and England."

Arsenal's cheapest season ticket for the upcoming season costs £985 (with the most expensive ticket costing a whopping £1,955), while Liverpool's cost £710, and Chelsea's is £595.

Jack Sullivan, son of West Ham co-owner David Sullivan, has hinted that the club plan to offer significantly cheaper season tickets once the club move into the Olympic Stadium in time for the 2016-17 Premier League season.

Retweeting Hoeness' comments, Sullivan said: "That's the hope at the OS [Olympic Stadium] give family's affordable football. Cheap ST [season tickets]."

Bayern are in the position to do that. If their circumstances change they'll be raking in money with the best of them.

Not happy with the rise myself nor some of the gimmicks - how can I fly to NY or Melbourne, cant even afford to go to Manchester most of the time?!

But gotta be done I suppose. Grrrr.

Extra loyalty points for Social media? WTF ... sad stuff, nearly as bad as fans being able to 'buy' extra loyalty points each season totally wrong and against the ethics the club used to have. Our owners have done some fantastic things and I will always be grateful but 'selling' loyalty point is one of the worse moves ever ... we are becoming the rags but thats the way football is now ... sadly

Oh and I would never wear a scarf with Cityzens on it .... ever

It took me awhile to sift through the shit, however, its not loyalty points for tickets.

There are 2 points

Ticket points (ex - loyalty points) where you get points for buying membership or SC's, tickets for cup games or auto schemes.
City points - This is a personal Cityzen profile on yourself where you can build up City points which give you access to certain areas and competitions. For example, if you have 450 City points you are able to enter the win a signed shirt competition.

City have marketed this very badly, Twitter was in meltdown the day before yesterday over it

What are the club supposed to do ? give them away for fuck all ?

We are the Champions of England ffs with a rapid growing worldwide fan base ! Will some still be moaning when they can't get a match ticket when BOTH new tiers are completed ?

Agree with the comments for points being allocated for social media etc , think that needs a proper rethink !
